Not sure if any of you guys are in the market for control arms, but I've got some new Lemforder ones for $50 off retail.

Re: The official E36 OT Thread!!

Mommymobile: Acquired!

She's a 2002 Lexus LX470, with 149k on it and basically all the options. Nav, DVD player, Mark Levinson Audio, heated seats, towing package, electronically adjustable hydraulic suspension, etc. A few dents and dings here and there but overall pretty good shape. Basically, it's a Toyota Land Cruiser with a bunch of goodies.

Market is rather soft for them so I got it for 12.1k, which is about 2k under private party blue book and 7k under retail blue book.

For the first time ever I'm having a bike issue. We had heavy-Alabama like-rains today and omw home from work i was running on one cylinder . I haven't looked yet, but will wager its a wet plug issue.

We had a 20% chance of rain today. So it twenty-percented all over us. I did get a bit more work done on Eddie's second E30 (formerly Amber's) before he had to leave at 1, and just before the rain started.

What motor is Hammond playing with here? Looks like a compact very basic BMW motor.

Anyone know?

Chad, nice buy. That should be a pretty robust hauler.

Franklyn, I have no idea, but if I had to guess, I'd say some sort of motorcycle engine?

I am.

Autotrader duplicated my ad for the VW so I had to contact them to reverse one of the charges, which somehow means my ad won't be posted for another 48 hours. Hrmph.

I wish it'd just go away before I get cold feet.

I'm also pretty highly caffeinated at this point. GF got back super late last night as a sunburned wreck from spending the weekend down in your neck of the woods, so I got to sleep late and have had a rapid-fire morning so far.

Oh well, better to be busy than bored.

Thanks guys! I feel a little sick crossing over to the dark side, but Brittany says this is her favorite car so far, and when she's happy......

It definitely doesn't drive like a BMW, but it's comfortable and a good ride. If I can fix the stupidly light steering it won't be quite so bad.

I've been up since 430....took MIL to the airport. Yawn......

This has to be a scam.

Of course it is.

Since craigslist implemented the email relay that masks everyone's emails, scammers need a new way to get information. Anyone can get a cheap burner phone for texts, so thats what you're seeing. It's the newest thing.

Not quite. I said I didn't want to. I did say I'd take out a loan when the time was right. I have nothing against loans in general, I just think it's silly that people will pour their entire paycheck into one to have the newest shiniest toy. And you're right, this is my first car I've paid 5 digits for. The thought of depreciation is sickening, but such is life.

I didn't expect the right timing to be so soon, but honestly, the house project is just killing me time-wise. So, I readjusted priorities and decided to spring for something a little more expensive that wouldn't need me under it all the time to fix things. It was a time vs money decision. And, I really didn't want a Suburban.

I'll chime in - The "rotary" polisher that Matt has is actually a "random orbital" (aka: "dual-action or D/A) polisher, and is quite different in nature from the older direct-drive rotary buffers. Whereas the older rotary buffers were basically nothing more than a big electric motor with a buffer pad connected to it, the newer random orbitals are much more sophisticated (and safer). While the pad on the random orbitals does spin, it does so at a much slower speed. And while the pad is rotating, it is also moving in lots of tiny orbits, like so:

Direct-drive polishers only rotate in one direction, at higher speeds (more heat), with no secondary motion. Since the speeds associated with random orbitals are much slower, there is very little heat introduced to the surface, and it's virtually impossible to burn through your car's paint. You can hold a random orbital in the same spot with your full weight for minutes and it will not burn the paint. The only drawback to random orbitals (versus direct-drive rotary buffers) is that they are slower. This really does not matter for someone who isn't buffing cars for a living. If you're getting paid to buff cars, and you need to do 4-5 cars per day, then you'll want something really fast for the job. This carries the risk of using a tool that, while faster, can burn the paint if you don' know what you're doing. For everyone else, it doesn't matter if you can buff your car in 3 hours versus 2 hours, and because of that, it makes a lot more sense to get the random orbital, since it will do just as good of a job, but will take a little longer (but with zero risk of causing damage). The buffer I have is also a random orbital.

Seems pretty even to me. Kinda surprised that the rears are more or less the same temp as the fronts, however.

Good morning! Who's awake?

I posted a dual action polisher. Mainly used for waxing and light paint correction. Rotary buffers are only for heavy paint correction and polishing.

Kinda, rotary buffers will be able to fix much much worse condition paint. They are actually slower than the process I used (Meguiar's 2 step correction compound.)

Ugh. Why...?

I was just offered a really good Friends and Family sorta deal on a 06 330XI (sport package, nav, 6 speed) that is in really good condition. Has about 110k miles on it. Its black on black, with tinted windows. I really want this car. His plans where to sell it after the winter, but he got a killer deal on an E39 M5 in perfect shape (mostly garaged and driven on weekends). So, the 330 has to go.
The M5 will sit next to a 01 996 with less than 30k on the clock.

So- heres the problem If I take his offer and buy the 330- I'd need to remove the E36. There is no wiggle room to convince my wife that I can have both. I really love the E36- and would likely loss a ton of money at this point (what, hopefully get $4k for it? I'd loss over $2 between purchase and money spent).

Thoughts? What would you do? I'm not saying the price of the car, but just know its a killer deal. Like, could be able to buy and sell for a profit- he's doing this with the understanding that I won't resell quickly.

My gut says- don't take the loss and keep the E36- But, this deal won't come up again.

When you say you can turn a profit on it, is it enough to equal out the bath you're going to take on the sedan?

Re: The official E36 OT Thread!!

WHAT THE F*CK?!

I'm posting this in hidden text below because it's pretty nasty, those that want to see it can highlight to read.

I despise using restrooms that aren't my own, but unfortunately nature called. I walked into a stall and I kid you not, there was a bunch of semen all over the front inside of the toilet bowl. Seriously, what the fook? It wasn't even 10am and this is at work at a bank in a multi-person restroom (which, thankfully, had another stall). Fooking nasty. Seriously. What is wrong with people??
