E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

pics of my first BMW just got a 92 325i, love it

I just bought me a black 92 convertible 325i last week for 2400.00.....really love the car even after it started pouring power steering fluid which required a 1500.00 steering rack replacement....I can't get over how many strangers have already commented on what a nice car it is, can't say that about too many 21 yr. old cars. Guess I just know beauty when I see it....here are 2 pics

Beautiful car, but you got ripped on the steering rack replacement. You must have had the dealership ("stealership") do the work. You can get a rebuilt, guaranteed rack for a fraction of that, and an independent shop would install it for about $300. If you're the least bit handy with a wrench, you could do it yourself in a day. Live and learn.

Welcome to the fest!

Where are you in NC? I know a couple good shops in the Raleigh area that won't beat you in the head as bad as somebody did on that steering rack.

Oh well, live and learn, I've put in two racks and it's not a pleasant job. Maybe if I had the other rack to lift it on wouldn't be so bad. Both came from boneyards, about $40 apiece, first one lasted 100K the second one just put in a while back. There's a 108K E30 at Pick n Pull right now, I need to get my ass over there and get the fuel pump and maybe the rack. If the miles are low, and no junk on the boots, it's a good gamble for my cheapskate arse.

It is a pain though when you're leaking power steering fluid (tranny fluid) everywhere and running the risking of damaging your pump as well.

But enough of beating you up over that, welcome to the land of E30-dom. The parts guy at Peter Pan BMW in nearby Burlingame (yes, that's the real name) tells me that about half of their service techs drive an E30 as their favorite ride.

Next time you need work done try one of these:

Autobahn automotive, 4200-159 Atlantic Avenue, Raleigh, NC - Import and Euro specialists.
Duty tire, 405 Tryon Rd, Raleigh, NC - indie shop that has a couple of guys who know BMWs in and out (Chris, Mack, Kevin).

See you around

That's a pretty good price BTW and the body looks straight. How many miles on it? Unless you know with some certainty about the maintenance history, there are a few things that might be prudent to do. The timing belt of course, no doubt you're heard about that one. Most people put on a water pump at the same time.

Tranny and diff fluid could use a renewal if there's no clue about when they were last done. The jobs can be a bit tricky - for my most recent effort, I came up with a good arrangement of a smallish funnel and some clear plastic hose that fits snugly to it. Can fill the tranny from above easily and the diff with the funnel over one of the rear tires.

The only oil I've had luck with on the diff is Amsoil. With other stuff, even the high quality, I get some LSD (limited slip diff) noise.

I'm dreading the day if ever my tranny goes out. Large funds. Oil changing is cheap insurance. The manuals recommend every 30K. I haven't been anywhere near that regular. More like 70 or 80K.

BTW, not to be paranoid, but I've read now and then that posting pics with your license number can sometimes bring trouble. I don't completely get it, maybe others know more about that.

Oh here, I was curious and did a search - here are some results.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1113404AAzqcTC

The first answer is basically, 'no problem' but the next few point out some of the potential problems. I'm not saying pull the pics, maybe use Paint to erase it, if you agree on this, that is.
