X3 oil level sensor

Bought an 2013 X3 w/4k from a local BMW dealer. At aprox 6k the add a qt of oil message came on and I did so with no dipstick to refer to. Great move BMW! At 7k it alerted again and once again I reluctantly did. One week later again it alerted and we took it to the dealer who took out 9 qts from a 6 qt system. "Faulty sensor" Can I have engine issues from running too full for god knows how long? I only added 2 qts in 3k miles but it my have been 1 qt over when I bought it.

Your car is still under the free maintenance plan.. Why are you adding oil on your own?

If the oil reaches the point where it reaches the height of the rotating crankshaft, and this whips the oil into a froth. Oil with lots of air in it does not lubricate well. The result can be similar to the kind of problems you might have running a car without oil or increase friction.
