Worried about SMG in Purchase

Hello. I am looking at an 06 E46 with SMG, 70k miles, one owner local to my location, at BMW center where I have previously purchased. Love the car, but it has SMG so I have freaked myself out about it. Car would not be a daily driver (wife rocks a new QX56 with the rugrats, I drive a company Camry {snooze}). BMW maintained

Read a lot of good and bad hype about SMG. Like most things on the web, you usually dont post about a good experience right?

What is the thoughts on the SMG? Should I pass on this car? Does anyone know if a PPI from a BMW shop (non-dealer) would tell me if there were any issues with the SMG?

Help is appreciated. Dont want to make a dumb move.

I think your biggest issue is that you'll have a tough time driving the Camry every day with the M3 sitting at home.

If you search through the forum you'll see there are some common problems that aren't expensive to repair. I had an expensive repair 2 years ago - problem was intermittent but frequent, needed to replace gear position sensor and shift actuator. You need a good relationship with a dealer or independent shop (this is true for any BMW out of warranty.)

if you dont feel like having to worry as much then get a regular stick is my two cents, nothing like driving a car thinking when will the light come on or when will my smg pump fail, we paid good money for these cars thats not the way we should enjoy them with worry
