Extended warranty advice?!??

My CPO warranty will run out at the end of this year 12-27-13. I've gone down to my local BMW dealership and was quoted on 2 extended warranties: preferred BMW- 3 yrs 36k miles for $2766 or "Penske" plan (owner of dealership) 3 yrs 36k miles for $4680. I've also requested quotes from easycare and USAA. It should be noted that the women I spoke to could not confirm if the preferred plan covers SMG issued! My 2008 M6 e63 has 72k miles on it. Any suggestions on what's the best for our m's?! I'm mostly worried about the smg clutch and pump and want that covered along with the electronics, but I'm looking for the best coverage possible..thanx in advance!

Go to M5board and search around. This has all been covered. There is a sticky at the top of the M5 section, and if you search warranty you will get tons of hits.

1. You want exclusionary warranty---one that says what is NOT covered.
2. Clutch is wear and tear. Start saving up.
3. There is only one warranty that I know of that covered the Smg pump being sold by member Bruce M., but it was stupid expensive, and I don't think it's available any more. I got quoted like $5,xxx for two years with a $200 (lol) deductible on my 2008 that was still under original factory warranty with like 45k miles. This was back in Jan.

Good luck.

Oh, and I decided to go without a warranty. My warranty ended in Feb, and so far I have had clutch replaced (wouldn't be covered) and belt tensioner (would have been covered, but the $200 deductible would have been 50 percent of the price).

Unless my engine goes in the next year I think ill come out ahead.

Haha, yeah the clutch was $2000, but I will say the shifting is better than I have ever felt in my car or any of the other m5/6's I've driven.

My clutch went out at about 49k, and my SMG pump was replaced under warranty at 38k, so hopefully I won't have any other transmission related problems.

$2000, or less is pretty much the going rate at an Independent Bmw shop. The clutch and various other little parts were around $800. I believe the manual calls or 12-13 hours to drop the tranny. My shop charges around $100/hour, and I get 10 percent off labor for being a BMWCCA member, so the labor was around $1200.

Im sure in places where they service more smg transmissions like S California or Florida they can drop the transmission in 7-8 hours, but cars like this are very rare here, so I expect to pay top dollar for good, quality work.

Can I ask where you got the parts for the Clutch from?

And part numbers if you have them.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Clutch replacement costs

$2,000 is accurate for an independent. Dealer gets $3,500. Bimmerzone.com sells OEM clutch assembly (SMG) and flywheel for under $1,600.
