530i engine makes puffing noise

I turn the car off, 4 or 5 seconds later it makes a puffing noise. I have had the car for 5 years, just started hearing this. I replaced the crank case ventilation/oil separater and associated hoses and an intake boot - that had a few tears in it. From what I have read on this and another forum, that seemed to be the general consensus of the problem.
So, $300 in parts and 2 days working on it and the car is still making this same noise. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Frank

The M54 is designed to burn off residual fuel for two coil firings after switching the ignition off.

See page 16 in the attached document.

You have an e39 with an M54 engine. Are you getting fault codes? Do you believe the sound you hear is that of a vacuum leak, maybe due to faulty CCV installation?

I always wondered what that sound was. I would describe it as more of a chirp. I thought it was the fan clutch coming to a stop. I will try to make a short sound clip and post it to see if we are discussing the same thing.

Might I subscribe some Bimmer Beano to alleviate said symptoms?

haha. funny! no beans, but did put some Kroger gas in it a few weeks ago and the car did a shake rattle and roll... felt like it was coming alive and rotating and shuddering. It obviously DID NOT like that gas. NOrmally I put BP premium or Chevron Premium in it. She is now spoiled.
