Just sharing my 2 cents.

If I take my car to any muffler shop and ask them to "remove the joined resonators and replace it with an x-pipe" will they understand it?
Is there any specific jargon I need to know so they get it done right?

After reading this and other threads, Im assuming this 1st step will give me some volume but wont get too throaty (like a hooked up mustang)?

What should I expect to pay for a job like this?

Does removing the resonators or installing an x pipe or exhaust improve gas mileage?

did you ever take pictures of the inside of these, just curious what the construction is of the piping inside if it is straight flow or has meshes.

NWS Alpine, I'm looking to do the same setup. I bought 08 650i which had muffler and front tube resonators removed, however I still have the back box resonator. So I was looking to install Magnaflow muffler and possibly Xpipe. i was hoping for your feedback on the sounds. Currently my sound is pretty annoying on low RPMs.

Resonators

I have both resonators removed, x pipe positioned more toward the front and eisenmann race exhaust. Best setup I have heard. When I drop the top it's music to my ears in sport mode, but still great for a daily driver! If your willing to pony up the cash... I wouldn't recommend anything else!!

Did you buy your X-pipe or had it made? If bought where did you get yours from?

Thanks

I do not have an X pipe. But thinking of getting one in the future. I know Magnaflow makes one and it is pretty good.

Can anyone recommend a shop they used in the Phila/S Jersey area that did the work? I stopped into my local Mieneke and they wanted $300.

Finally got mine done! I bought this x-pipe from Jegshttp://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/30681/10002/-1

Note I did try one of the other ones but It did not fit so a little trial and error. Exhaust guy was real happy with the fit on this one. Alot of guys use the Magnaflow one so that's another option.

This was on and off searching for a shop to do it in Phila for a reasonable price so I almost gave up on it. Very happy from a performance stand point, throttle is more responsive. There is a difference in sound, but barely notice at all under day to day driving, so it suits my taste. You do hear a difference on the high way when your getting on it, but again, good exhaust note and not overly loud.

In case anyone in the Phila area wants this done I went to Bill at Meineke on Vare ave in South Phila. Pm me if you need the number.

Here s a few pics:

I just did this mod last week, using the Magnaflow X-Pipe. Sounds much better. Even better after the AFE intake install last night. Now, its time to find some good mufflers!

Glad to hear you did it as well!

Not trying to hate on the Magnaflow, but it sounds really close to everyone who uses it, like the Flowmaster sound about the same on a Ford or Chevy. Have you guys tried Dynomax? I am very interested on the new Dynomax VT (high-flow straight-through stainless steel performance muffler that controls irritating drone while ensuring maximum performance) or the Dynomax bullet.

Corsa?

Hey. I am new to the forum...have had many BMWs but just got an 05 645 convertible.

Have been reading up on everyones opinions on exhaust. Has anyone ever put a corsa on a 6er?
I had LT Headers and Corsa exhaust on my CTS-V and it was the best sounding exhaust second to maybe a tubi exhaust on a ferrari. Now I understand my V was a much bigger motor.

Just curious...

Finally got some free time and had the large all-in-one resonator/x-pipe removed from Magnaflow cat-back system. The car is only slightly louder at idle and low throttle cruising. The goal was to strike a balance between getting more rowdy sound without having it be obnoxious or dealing with a lot of drone. Results: it’s close to 10% louder under full throttle, definitely a bit more rowdy under hard deceleration, and you get some slight drone in situations like when the traffic on the freeway slows way down and you start to accelerate and the tranny doesn’t down shifter. I am real happy with the results. Will post some vid soon.

I tried the resonator delete and was satisfied for about 2 weeks, and then I wanted something a little louder and ended up purchasing an RPI GT axle back exhaust. Here are the results:

^Did you get the RPI exhaust for M6 (didn't see one for 6 series)?

Btw, it looks good with the M6 rear bumper.
