Looking at 97 BMW 528i - 85,000 miles

My '97 is a January build date and has been in our family since new. It has been bullet proof for 16 years. Paint/ Interior like new. Typical repairs performed over the years.... Nothing serious or expensive so far. Manual transmission .

I would also look on autocheck, carfax doesn't always report if a car has any accident damage or other problems. That happened with my friends '04 330i zhp. Carfax was reported clean, but autocheck said it was in a front collision and was towed. Which turned out to be true. It never hurts to have a body shop look the car over as well with a PPI. If all checks out then yeah go for it. That's also pretty good mileage for a 16 year old BMW.

Definitely have it checked out. Is it a private party sale? Original owner or 2? If you can get receipts, that would be awesome. I have all my receipts for my car, from the original owner, then the second owner. I input them into an excel file (actually google documents), and so I can keep track of all the maintenance done it, and know when things are due next.

Cars with low miles are always a risk because it could have been parked for a long time because of a collision, so definitely have it checked out thoroughly. I would jump on it if all checks out okay though!

I hit 170,000 in my 97 528i today. Great car and has been relatively cheap maintence wise so far.

Re: Looking at 97 BMW 528i - 85,000 miles

My 97 has 220k, went through Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, has and other than the normal maintenance issues I am thrilled with my $2200 car. It really comes down to how it was treated and maintained by the previous owners.
