Added BMS Stage I

Installed the BMS Stage I tune today on my 650i.

After lot's of DD and plenty of posts from the guys on the F10 5'er site it was obviously the best choice best for my N63Tu.

I'll be honest I felt more comfortable with these guys to install than me. We have a great speed shop here in Phx Metro called VividRacing, check it out: http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/p...d9vi185tgp61g6

There are 4 or 5 informal thread regaring the BMS Tune here on the Fest in the F10 section.

I'll post more a little later. SD

I have been real curious how the TU would react to the stage 1 - looking forward to reading your opinions.

BMS Review

Well Iíve had a few days with the BMS Stage I Tune on my N63Tu 2013 engine that comes along stock at 445hp/480hp.

I didnít add this on without a lot of research and confirmation. The BMS Stage 1 ECU Tune is a relatively simple install snapping on your left and right TMAP Sensors. This system remaps boost, timing and fueling to increase hp/tq and reduce turbo lag.

I had been waiting to for Dinan to come out with their Stage II for my motor and in the meantime kept reading about the very positive reviews of the BMS product. With the guys on the 5íer and 7íer boards, the reviews have not been favorable.

First start up after install and it was obvious this already strong engine was even more of an animal. Power is across the board, low end torque is increase and high end hp is evident immediately. There is no messing around with full throttle in Sport Plus, best to be ready for an active rear end. AND donít do a full throttle stomp going around a corner unless you have plenty of room to slide and know exactly what your doing. I canít tell you exactly how much more hp/tq Iím now getting with the BMS and the exact numbers really doesnít matter to me or I would have done a prior Dyno. To guess itís 475hp/525tq and the butt meter is definitely increased.

Iím not really interested in maxxing this car out and creating issues with related components, just looking for a sweet bump in hp/tq and BMS delivers all day.

Can you still get the BMW extended warranty with the mod?

I think the 3k is warranty related. I'm thinking about doing this, I gather you had a speed shop do your install. What did they charge ? I read the installation guide and it looks like it's something I could do. Which harness is required A or B ? As you said this looks perfect for a nice butt boost without stressing anything.

It's harness B for the 2013 engine and the install was 30 minutes of shop labor. Need to learn how to disengage if the need should arise.

This week remove the charcoal filters and was also dropping in high flow airfilters by BMC, but they sent the wrong size so their going in next week. The removal of the extra charcoal filter is a must since they are used in North America only.

As you say the BMS is really a great butt boost mod for extra hp/tq to our engines. Remaps timing, fuel and adds 2.5lbs of boost. The difference is dramatic.

Where did you buy filters from?

And this is the first I've heard of the charcoal filters...

Just ordered the stage 1 w/ B harness!

$195 for the pair not each. They are pre-oiled and are for the life of the car, washable. First class construction. 50% more airflow and 30% particle filtration improvement. Remove the Charcoal filters when putting in the BMC Flat Panels. Goes great with the BMS Stage I.

BTW did the filters change the sound of the car? I already have Megan racing mufflers on the car.

Last week Vivid ordered the wrong filters so all I did was have the charcoals removed and yes there was nice pop under high rpm shifting from the engine compartment. Next week the filters will be dropped in and I'll write a comment or two.

..........And as we know this is not a Giant Mod but without a doubt brings more air into the intake.

I've read that the filters alone will create 8-10hp and also removing the charcoal filters will probably give a little bump too.

Bottom line is the N63 motor is restricted with 2 filters stacked on top of each other and freeing that air up can only be a good thing.

So you did feel like you noticed a difference with removing the charcoal filters? I'm inspired to give this a shot.

So I may have screwed up??? I ordered the filters mentioned above (BMC Flat Panel Replacement Filter BMW M6 13-14) but my car isn't an M series... I figured the intake filters were the same, guess not. These defiantly don't fit a 2013 650i non M.

I had the same issue, come to find out BMC does not make the pre-oiled drop in filters for the 650i but only make them for the M6. K&N also does not make one for our cars so we are stuck for now with the paper filters. I would really like to go with the washables when someone make them for our cars. I got to see the BMC filter for the M6 and it is a high quality product. Just wish they made one for our cars. Would think this will probably come out soon.

Now on the charcoal filters they are stacked with the air filters only on the North American 650i's and do create less air for these engines. They are a polution device when the 650i is shut off during cool down. Definitely remove them for improved air flow and performance.

I swear with the BMS, no charcoal filter and Megan exhaust I got to be near 500hp, right? Basically 55hp bump over stock...

What?? You found the BMS filters for our 650i's?? I was told by Vivid Racing they are not manufactured for our engines, only the M6. Where did you find them?

How are you liking the Megan axle back's?? Would love to hear.

Any chance my BMS is causing a vibration (see other thread I posted) when going up hill?

My best guess is this vibration is caused by something besides the BMS Tune. Never had anything like your describing.

That was my thought too... The vibe seems to be in the front middle of the passenger compartment.. in that I don't feel like it's one tire or anything. I noticed it a couple days ago and it's gotten more pronounced but still intermittent. All tires are ok on pressure, I put in 93 gas, so just trying to narrow it down. I am going out of town for 4 days, then will check it out when I get back I guess!
