Unhappy Steering and Tire wear questions

I have a 2011 X3 3.5.
I bought is used in April of this year from a dealer and it's certified with an extended warranty.
I've put about 6k miles on this care since purchase, it has a total of 22k miles on it.
I started noticing a steering wheel wobble @ 50 MPH. it is not noticeable above or below this speed.
I also have a lot of wear on the outside edge of my front tires, I have Pirelli 18 run flats.
These tires appeared to be almost new when I purchased this car. The back tires still look new.
I took the care in for an alignment check and was told that the alignment appears to be fine. They mentioned the tires were showing wear and advised that I should purchase 2 new tires for the front, @ 500 each. They said this type of wear is typical and would probably be the reason for the wobble @ 50 mph.
In my 2005 x3 I would get 40K miles out of my tires, and I did not drive like a grandma.
This sounds fishy to me. Anyone else seeing this type of wear or wobble in their care?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Finnsane

My 2011 has pulled to the right since the day I got it. Outside front tire wear is present. I have about 20k on the car and will need to replace tires soon I think. The dealer was concerned that because the car was pulling and the driver was compensating for that, the front outside tires showed increased wear.

Found a SIB for spring perch (?) replacement on earlier models. They replaced the front springs and did an alignment. The car doesnt pull as bad now, but it's still there, especially at the 40-50 mph mark. On the interstate (70 mph) it seems fine.

Also - I agree with you - in my 2006 X3 I would get 40k out of the tires with no abnormal wear and the car didnt have any issues with pulling.

Steering and Tire wear questions

To follow up on my OP.
took the car to the dealer and was told that they could only offer a check of the perch springs after new front tires were installed aligned and balanced. If that did not work they would
start the perch spring process. Quoted 900 for two new OEM front run flats. I passed and worked with my salesperson to approach this another way. Got the dealer ship to align and balance the car tires without new fronts and at no charge. The wobble at 50 MPH is gone and the right pulling is so far absent. Hope it stays this way. I'm considering purchasing non run flats when my tires wear in about 15k miles.
I'm very happy with the dealer I worked with and will continue to work with them.
I also had a chance to see the new 3 series GT. it's a very cool looking car. Going to have to test drive it. I don't think it comes in a manual though .

I'm glad you like your dealer... doubt though that they will install non-run flat tires for you.
