clicking on black box on both side of engine

I recently bought a 2006 m5 and love it.I've been having fun with the car reaching speeds of 155 miles an hour. I've also been doing the perfect launch a few times. Now the car is making a weird clicking sound out of the engine seems to be the black box mounted on the engine. located on both the right and left side of engine towards the front of the motor. only one side is making a clicking. does anybody know what this could be or what the part is called. the car runs fine and there seems to be no loss of power. please help!!

Sounds like a VANOS issue to me.

Are any warning lights on? Get the car scanned at Autozone, they'll do it for free. Just cause there's no warning lights on doesn't mean the car isn't throwing a code.

If all else fails... take it to the stealership and have them check
