e34 v12 swap

Hey guys I'm looking into a v12 swap in a 94 525i. I'm basically. Looking for any info on the swap. I'm looking into buying. A crashed e32 750 so I can have all the bits to do the swap. My question is basically concerning the engine mounts, subframe, steering, brake booster, and wiring. So regarding the engine mounts and sub frame. Will they transfer over to the e34 chassis or do custom mounts need to be made? Can I use the 525 subframe with the v12 mounts? Can I retain my 525 steering components or do I have to swap the 750 ones, or do I need to mix and match steering components? Will the hydro boosts setup on the 750 retrofit on the 525 without major modification? And finally wiring do I have to mate the 525 and 750 wiring harnesses or are the chassis and engine wiring separate? Any info would be helpful as I am trying to learn as much as possible before I start tearing things apart.

Andy!!!!

Where are you???

Hahahaha, this gets asked about 1x a month.. We just leave it to andy to explain since he actually did it.

We can just say. It takes a lot!!!!

More than the 2 donor cars alone i believe.. And a 540 may be easier to swap into

Find him he's E-thirty andy or somthing.. Red wagons

Sorry not sure how i missed this.

yes, you need the donor E32 750iL, preferably complete and road worthy, or rear ended, you will be using a LOT of the bits off that car.

Ideally, you will also either have a 540i or have a doner 540i as well, so you can fit the larger brakes, larger rear subframe etc.

My car started life as a 520i wagon, now its basically a 540i underneath, with an M70 in the engine bay, and all the wiring from the headlights to the tailgate is all from a donor E32 750iL

During the build the stock 3 DMEs were used, another way around it could be using a Link ECU or similar, but i had no experience with those and also to run a V12 you have to run dual sparking (i.e. cylinder 1 and cylinder 12 firing at the same time etc), which doesnt produce as much power as if you used the factory DMEs

I get asked this at least once a month, im happy to help where I can, but i dont generally go into detail until you have brought the donor cars and have made a start etc.

My build took about 18 months from being a road legal 520i to a road legal "550i"

edit: also, budget to change all the gaskets and seals and all maintenance items before the build. I didnt really replace anything, and i wish i did, because room is very tight. Also if you want it manual, your on your own, mine is automatic

WOW. Now someone needs to convert it to a convertible and it will be even more perfect.

I remember that article. (actually I think I got it somewhere on my hard drive)

My question is where is the original motor? That hartge m73 is probably the biggest unicorn in the entire e34 kingdom. (probably why the PO pulled it)

i seriously doubt that car ever had an M73, i call bull**** on the ad.

if it was, it would have the full catalouge of Hartge bits, which it doesn't, and if it did at some stage in the past, why on earth would you strip one hens teeth car, and put the engine into an M5, which at the dates he is saying was an almost equally rare and expencive car.

interesting his solution for the brakes too, looks like the original V8 brakes are equipped and not changed. Im running the E32 750iL setup in mine

The M5 was a euro 3.8 car that got an S70, the owner wanted more power (http://www.willz.ca/GD63011.htm) and this engine was in it until it threw a rod (and the S70 went back in). The 530 was a plain-jane car with the Hartge motor. I believe it was sold for around 25k in '06, that was cheaper than doing a FI kit at the time.
