Gas tank vent line

I am looking around for a tank and contacted a member. But I also have an issue with my vent line. It has just completely rusted away there are sections here and there. This is all from smelling gas all the time and now investigating. My tank has two pinholes at the bottom and very rusty above where the two halves connect. Can I eliminate the line, I don't thinks so though.

Metal, looks like a PO ran something over larger gashes in the tank(thank god its not leaking badly) and looks like when it was rear ended they rode under the car and the tank is wrinkled. When the bumper was replaced they should have done the tank.
