So, Monsignor, for the time being, I need to find a couple of stock wheels for my E34. How would I refer to them while searching for them???

"E34 basketweaves" or "E34 bottlecaps". 15" is E34, 16" is E38

E34 Basketweave

E34 Bottlecap

These are a bit harder to find in my opinion, they are out there but the others are much more popular. I have style 7 too.

E39 wheels are pretty popular on our cars. they require hub rings though.

Well found the emails. The add expired last week, and the email is no longer valid, wish he would have given his phone #.

Thanks for all the replies.

I will be checking Craigslist and also with some forum members who have offered parts for sale.

Monsignor,

I think we can call it fixed now. Many cold starts have passed now and all are instant....

Very happy to hear. Glad you pioneered it! better than replacing the motor.

Also I wouldnt say it was due to bore wash as i still am not entirely confident in that being the issue. I'm sticking to my timing/VANOS/tensioner guns...

I have thought the same thing, but even a broken tensioner spring (3 coils) wouldn't cause this kind of problem, IMHO anyways.

It took a while to think back to when the problem started and everything happened at the same time. Had it not been for me questioning why the BC was reading -34C I might have never looked deeper into the problem and found the disconnected ambient temp sensor.

This is one of the most concise threads I have found on the subject:

And here the 'experts' demonstrate just how little they really know about BMW:

And here some BMW forum gurus really are not fully aware of the BMW Bore Wash Phenomenon:

BimmerBryan - "PostPosted: Sun Dec 19, 2004 6:22 pm Post subject: Is this possible-instant loss of compression ? Reply with quote
Come on....If there is a loss of compression on ALL six cylinders, how can it be anything but a cam not moving, hence a timing gear or chain? "

edjack - "Another possibility, considering that it was "instant": the valve stems may be crudded up to the extent that they won't close. The crud reached the point that, overnight, the crud gummed up to the extent that it kept the valves from closing."

antonmn - "I'd first look at the headgasket."

Only this newbie seems to be on the right track...

johnnyrat - "My mechanic says that gasoline runs down the cylinder walls dissolving the oil layer and causing the cylinder to lose compression. He removes the spark plugs and injects a little oil in the cylinders puts the plugs back in and it will fire up. He tells me he has seen this with other BMWs. It would be nice to know the root cause of this..."

idk....

how is this a straight 6 BMW thing? theoretically is should be every single engine with direct injection. Poor design of injectors? Poor piston ring design?

I've always been such a skeptic of all that bore wash whooplah
