Msport X5 pretty boring looking...

I'm thinking about getting an X5 50i. I currently have an E92 M3. I would prefer to get the Msport since it has a sport transmission, etc.

But the vehicle looks like the cheap/rental version. The xLine looks great. Even the Luxury line has some visual character.

Anyone else thinking this way or is the Msport the one that you really like?

not a big fan of a new F15, but to me M version looks way better than Luxury or X line, cant stand front end even X1 has a better front end IMO

I do want to see it when it arrives at my dealer. Maybe the Msport looks better IRL.

Where the M Line really shines is from the rear. IMO, all other lines look a bit "flimsy" in comparison.

All those wheels look small.

Don't like the xLine wheels. But I like the overall look of it. Even the Lux looks fine.

My vote is for xLine as i am looking for family car with 3rd row. I didn't like the M Sport F15 as much as i did on E70. They screwed up the front lower part.

Luxury line is OK but you get better value with xLine with enhanced looks and running boards. Note, the running boards are much narrow compare to e70.

I don't understand what you would really benefit from sport transmission other than an extra sport PLUS mode, which is reviewed as rough ride.

We all know M Labeling is mere visual satisfaction as this is not true M.

Mainly it is having the paddle shifters available which can be fun as an option.

The M steering-wheel - according to what I heard - shouldn't be too bad, either. I also prefer the anthracite headliner.

I don't like the huge, plain & black plastic-parts, either - but there is a solution for that problem. I'm going to replace these parts with those on the M50d. They have a nice chrome-divider in the middle - and voila, the front is fixed..

I like that a lot. It doesn't take much to correct the Msport bumper. Can you add that silver divider as a stand alone? It looks like it is molded into the bumper.

Just curious...We are able to notice each and every detail on these lines as we are spending lot of time on these lines and doing side by side comparison.....

do you think a stranger or a colleague can point any difference when its parked in office lot?

of course, the M sport comes with paddle shifters which you may use very occasionally.

I can't tell for sure because I have yet to see one in real life - but I doubt that the chrome is molded into the bumper. Reason why I'm thinking that is that it is very unlikely that BMW is going to built two different front bumpers for the M Sport line and the M50d (one with and one without slot for the chrome). That's also why I'm assuming that the parts can be switched without any bigger issues.

It's amazing, though, that such a little stripe can have such a huge impact on the overall appearance.

Here's a more detailed close-up:

Probably not. But I'm a car guy and want to like the look of the vehicle I'm getting so I'm pickier. If I was a point A to B driver I'd get a Camry and never give stuff like this a moments thought.

I seen the F15 Msport in real life at BMWNA, the chrome itself is clipped on, so yea it's like an addon.

I really hate the air curtain on the F15 Msport has alot if PLASTIC >_

I agree with the OP. There is just too much cheap looking black, and they ducts are way too big and oddly shaped. The other trim lines look much better, IMO, and it's disappointing, because I'm torn between how to order. Why make the non-sport trims look more refined and aggressive than the more pricey M-line? Truly disappointing...

How do you know if it's actually clip on? I understand you saw it but did you see it come off or something? Also on 35i or 50i M sport models, the plastic part is a little different than the 50d. On 50d, the bottom of the plastic part actually has holes and maybe because of that the chrome piece can be clipped on. But on the 35 and 50i M sport the plastic part doesn't have holes.

I got these numbers off of real oem:

Open grid, left 1 51118055273

08 Open grid, right 1 51118055274

09 Trim insert molding, primered, left 1 51118056785

09 Trim insert molding, primered, right 1 51118056786

These numbers are for 2013 X5M50d, so I would assume that they would work. 2014 are not listed yet

After seeing a white M Sport Line I bought one. I like the slighter wider flare at the front wheel wells, looks more aggressive, the square exhaust and the other features. I didn't like the black M Sport as much because it lacked visual detail because the windows and window frames disappeared into the black body. I prefer some accenting. On the other hand, I just saw a 2014 black X Line with running boards and really like it. I would be thrilled to own either one. Mine should arrive in a few weeks.

BTW I did test drive the diesel and it was very noisy compared to the X5 gas as well as the Mercedes ML350 diesel.

I spent a year looking at different mid sized SUVs and for my taste the 2014 X5 is the most attractive (inside and out), drives great and has great features. Since I live in MN, I am disappointed is that it does have even an aftermarket remote start. I will keep my eyes open for a way to have a pre-warmed interior.

Found this in another forum which makes total sense to me: "The car is German and in Germany, it is illegal to idle a vehicle for longer than 20 seconds and unattended for any time at all. Remote start is by definition "inefficient." It flys in the face of "BMW Efficient Dynamics" which is meant to save gas and be environmentally correct vs. burning gas on an idle car. I would never install an aftermarket remote start in a brand new BMW which is under factory warranty. Just my opinion.

BTW, I also live in MN and got a 2014 X5 MSport in Carbon black. Love the "mean" look of my car.

I'm assuming you test drove an E70 35d? (The F15 35d doesn't start production until next month…I'm guessing the F15 35d will be quieter…)

Completely agree that the ML350 diesel is a LOT quieter than the E70 35d's. But, I like the growl!

I was thinking the exact same thing - how could anyone have driven an F15 diesel when production hasn't started yet??

My SA gave me a 535d to drive this past weekend since he said the F15 35d will have the same engine. So although it won't be an exact match (sound, performance) since it is in a different chassis, it's at least a reasonable starting assessment point.

I didn't notice much noise inside the 535d and the performance was pretty good. Not sure I can pass on the huge gain in mileage over the gas engine...

according to the diagram on RealOEM there are 2 types of grills closed and open. So far I've only seen the open on the M50d and closed on the X50i. "4" is open "5" is closed and "6" is the trim. I am assuming the "open" is required for the clip attachment so I'm thinking it may not be so straightforward.....anybody tried this so far?
