Selling a 1980 CR gearbox on ebay, do I need to...

Hi,

I have a 1980 Euro 635 I am parting out. I want to sell the CR 5 speed gearbox on ebay. It only has 72,000 miles on it. To get the best price, do I need to open it up and take pictures of the gears to show that they are all whole and intact?

To get those pictures, is it as simple as unbolting the casing and lifting off one piece carefully, snapping pictures, and then bolting it back on?

I am an amateur car mechanic and a professional power plant mechanic. I've never opened up a tranny before, and I'm concerned that there might be springs or things that can go easily wrong and it would be better if I just left this nut uncracked...

Thanks,

P.

Who ever is in charge of BigCoupe.com has not approved my request for membership in several days.

The auction ends in 2 days. here is a link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-BMW-Eur...142b45&vxp=mtr

If it's not too much trouble, could you just throw this link up on that website?

Muchas Gracias,

Steve

You advertise your parts for sale here as well as on other forums, never bother to answer inquiries and then keep asking advice. Best advice is to respond to those of us on these forums who have responded to you I for one have inquired about several parts you said you wanted to sell, but you never even bother to respond. I would appreciate it if you would

Hey Horny

I don't even know the guy unless he is under an assumed name.LOL. I have to figure he is just a sloppy businessman. Started a line of communication when he first started advertising here, he promised to let me know as soon as he determined prices and then went south. Oh well

Yes, he's on the BigCoupe.com forum, too (as you know), advertizing his parts. Either on-forum or off, if you say you'll reply with an answer and don't, it doesn't reflect well on your conduct. First thing I thought was he must do a lot of Craiglist transactions, because he seems to behave like a lot of CL posters. No replies to questions, etc.

Dear Bert,

I posted a thread where I said I don't know the value of the parts I have, and I was looking for help and advice on figuring out what they are worth.

You responded with on offer to buy parts.

It takes a certain kind of snake oil salesman to offer to buy something when the seller doesn't know the value of what he has.

It is also a non-sequitur to offer to buy something without offering a specific price for it.

I did respond to your first PM. I don't recall what I said. You sent a second PM with the same ***65533;I might buy your part***65533; offer.

I did not send you a PM, but I did post a link in the forum for you (and everybody) saying that my CR tranny was for sale on ebay.

I did send a PM with a link to the guy who offered me $400 for it. In retrospect, I realize that was a seriously low lowball offer.

I also sent a PM with a link to the guy who told me not to take $750 for it. He wasn't interested in it, so I also sent him a PM with a link to my long list of parts on Craigslist, with the offer that whatever he buys I will send to him with free shipping.

I don't know why your panties are in such an uproar, Bert. You and your buddy seem to have enjoyed your little tirades. I'm sorry if I didn't send you enough PM's to meet your requirements.

If you want to buy something off the craigslist parts, feel free to do so. If you have any questions, ask. If you have any advice, well, at this point perhaps you should just keep that to yourself.

And yes, you have caught me: I am playing you and everyone else against each other. It's called a ***65533;marketplace.***65533; And in an effort to be fair to everyone in it, I have not bought nor sold any parts to anyone privately. I don't sell a part until I have posted it in an ad with a specific price, or on an auction website. I am happy to negotiate privately after I have posted a public ad. But that requires you to respond about a specific part with a specific price.

Good luck to you and everyone out there.

Sincerely,

P.O.6.

Not to argue with you. You were going to a friend, or some such knowledgable person, for help on pricing. I was never interested in your gear box, so I am not sure where that came from, but rather, a set of headers you have or had. I never made you an offer on ther headers, as I was waitng for you to respond with a price that your friend was supposed to help you come up with. It is possible I made you an offer on some small item, but it is so long since you responded, I can't remember. Playing us against each other is fine..but on ebay. The forus are not an auction house.

I have sent you at least 3-5 pms or forum responses with one response from you, which was" I will get back to you". You never did. Hence my negative response on the forum. "Snake oil salesman" and name calling?? Not really a good way to respond. Snake oil salesman? Go to the 2 larger BMW forums where I have bought and sold parts for the past 6 years and put out a feeler as to my integrity. Go on ebay where I have close to 80 BMW parts trades and see my 100% rating. Snake oil salesman indeed.

Dear Bert,

Your first sentence is a lie. You are arguing with me. And I am fine with that, but I ask you to realize what you are doing here.

I have exactly 2 PM's from you.

If you have been waiting for a price on the headers, here is your official notice. Go to the thread I started where all the parts are listed on craigslist. The headers are in there. New from Stahl they are $1400. My price is $1,000. That price is firm for anyone named ***65533;Bert Poliakoff***65533; or anyone I ship to in or near Scottsdale AZ (unless it is my old friend Scott the therapist from Scottsdale, but he mostly drives English cars).

***65533;The forums are not an auction house.***65533; This is true. I am not posting an ad and asking for bids and I will take the highest one. I am posting an ad with a price and all prices are ***65533;OBO***65533;. I will take any offer that is within range of my posted price (except for you & Scottsdale AZ, of course).

You never made any offer on any item.

You complain about ***65533;snake oil salesman***65533; commentary. You offer me a reference to your reputation on ebay and your reputation with other buyers/sellers. I don't care how you have treated them. I only have to scroll up and see how you and your buddy have treated me and I have all the ***65533;references***65533; I need.

This thread is closed. I've stopped following it. Have a nice life.
