Cool X3 Nanny Mode

Hi. I have been looking through the forum trying to find something about BMW's nanny mode, but with no luck. Now I cannot believe this topic is not discussed and so I must assume I am calling it by the wrong name.

I am talking about the irritating 'overprotection' I find on my vehicle. As a volunteer at Brooklands Museum I use my X3 for Breakdown and Recovery work and over the weekend I was towing off vehicles (if they broke down during the time runs) at Wings and Wheels. This meant if I backed up, then got out to see I had it slightly wrong. When I tried again it would kick me out of gear (because I still had the door open).

When I tried to jump start a vehicle from too far way, I had to close the bonnet before I could get closer and so on. Perhaps most irritating of all is when stopped but with the engine running, you cannot open the back door to get a jacket / torch / fire extinguisher out of the back, unless you get back in to the front an hit door unlock.

None of this is a great issue and done for our own good, but it is flipping annoying! It is especially so when you come from a Landy, where for example the seat belt warning annoys you, the fix is to plug it in and then unplug in quick succession a few time and it will disable the feature.

I imagine there must be ways around these little things and would appreciate hearing from someone more knowledgeable? Of course if you think I am whinging about nothing, then thanks for reading this anyway.

I think the only thing that can be changed via idrive is the trunk lock
You can turn off the Drive Away Locking. The rest would have to be coded.

Thanks for that.

I am now trying to get my head around the coding and more importantly what equipment is needed.

I have also decided to solve the door open when reversing problem, by fitting a camera to see when the hitch is getting close.
