Brake Caliper Decals

Has anyone had any luck with brake caliper decals? Do they stay on through the heat produced by the brakes?

Brake Caliper Decals

Never had problems with mine for over a year now but I painted the calipers first, applied the decal and put a clear coat on top

Don't mean to hijack but....does painting your calipers void your warranty in any way? Will BMW still provide the scheduled maintenance (brakes) if painted?

I have never heard of that happening. I cannot imagine it being an issue.

I bought the "BMW" ones off ebay and they were fine on my caliper. They do not melt at all.

Guys, how do you paint your F10 calipers? Is it necessary to take them off? Wouldn't like that, as I guess venting etc. is a pain with all those computerized vehicles of today...

Its very simple to do.

Mask off the area with newspaper
Clean the calipers with brake cleaner and let it dry
Spray desired color

The whole process takes 15-20mins per caliper and very easy to do. Remember its only brake calipers so you don't have to get it perfect or every ever inch of the back side of the calipers

What do you guys use to lift the car and remove and replace the lugs to be sure you're tightening to the correct torque?

I use my low profile car jack from Sears and their 1/2" torque wrench. BTW our cars uses 17MM socket for the lugs.

Looks nice. Do you have any pics on how the paint is holding up after heat cycles?

No pic but my 535xi had the calipers painted for about a year and still looks like this (just dirtier)

I always use high temp spray paint for this type of stuff.

BTW on the BMW Grand Coupe the calipers come gloss black stock. I guess you need to spend atleast 100k on a car for them to include some paint on the brakes or else you'll end up with old rusty's

I always just have my torque wrench set to about 90lbs. Never had any issues.

I purchased my decals on ebay. Just be sure its can withstand high temperature.

Attached are the pictures of me masking down the wheel well and rotor section. I covered the rear quarter panel just incase of overspray. I used VHT high temp caliper paint. Its been over 3 months and the caliper still looks as if I just sprayed it from day one. FYI, I sprayed 3 coats on each caliper.

Too bad the calipers rust on a $70k car. It bugs me every time I detail that they are rusty.

Looking at your last picture...how did you get the decal on there with the caliper not having a smooth flat surface? Also, pic 2 and 3 looks like different shades of blue.

I've posted this in other threads, but it is worth repeating. I have used a brush on caliper paint from G2 on a prior Porsche and the current F10. Great product. It usually takes two coats and goes on very easy. I did use a blue paint on the F10 and it just didn't work for me so I repainted in black.

After spray painting the caliper with 3 coats of paint, the surface becomes smooth. Pic 2 and 3 look different because of the lighting. Pic 2 is exposed to 100% lighting as the wheel was off and it was in the afternoon. Pic 3 was taking in the garage and with the wheel on which doesn't allow much light in.
