Talking help locked out of 03 x5 ***9734;***9734; SOLVED ***9734;***9734;

I have a 2003 x5, I had it towed about 1 year ago and since then my remote stopped working and the light inside when I would open the door, also the center unlock button. So I was using the key to open the car since and last week as I was locking the car with the key if felt something snap and I heard something fell inside thed door, now the key won't open it, I was able to use some tools pull the door just enough to grab the inside handle with a wire and even push the center lock but nothing happens it doesn't open please help it has been a week now

When you lock the car with the key (remote or manually)...the doors are double locked...which means that the doors won't open from the inside nor outside.

But starting with the 2000 model year...BMW changed the central locking system that even when double locked...if you follow a certain procedure you can open the door from the inside. That procedure is to press the central lock/unlock button on the center console once, then pull twice on an interior handle and it should open. But this may not work for you since you wrote that your central locking system button (on the center console) isn't working.

If you insert the key into the door lock cylinder and turn & hold the key in the UNLOCK position...can you get the windows to roll down (the convenience open feature)? If you can, you can then get inside the cabin and insert the key into the ignition. The alarm may sound for a brief moment, but when EWS recognizes the key, the alarm should stop...and you should be able to unlock the doors.

(see: CONVENIENCE OPEN FEATURE in both images below)

As far as the interior light...did you check to make sure that they were'nt turned off? If you press & hold the center button (light switch near sunroof access panel) you can permanently turn off the interior lights (see instructions below from owners manual). And did you check the fuses (front & rear location) to see if there was a blown fuse for the central locking system?

[QUOTE=98blk540;7821I have a 2003 x5, I had it towed about 1 year ago and since then my remote stopped working and the light inside when I would open the door, also the center unlock button. After I had my door locked for 2 weeks I came up with a solution that worked, remember my car was double locked so the central lock is not working or remote so by pulling on the handles from inside it wouldn't open.
I tried everything, pressing central lock button and pulling handles twice, nothing worked and my next step was to break the window but good thing I didn't do it
I will share the solution maybe it would help someone.
1. Remove the key cover on the handle
2. There is a screw that hold the lock assembly, but you can unscrew it from the inside only, so I drilled it all the way through.
3. Pull the assembly out
4. Inside you will see the white hole with a cross looking like in picture 5
5. Then take a flat screw driver and turn it as you would with a key.

thx for the update this will help alot of peeps out there and save them some cash.
after unlocking your door like this do you find your problem with the central lock system? also did you have to replace the door lock assembly? and did the cable break off inside the door? (just curious).

updating problem found

As you can see in the picture I found the problem, also I bought a new cylinder repair kit on ebay for $31.
1st picture shows the broken piece and the new kit right next to it.
Hope this helps you. Thanks
