2006 530i Trunk

Hello. So my 2006 530i keeps telling me the trunk is open but it is closed. Every time I stop the dings to tell me the trunk is open. It will also randomly not open with the key fob and I will have to take the key out to open it. Any suggestions?? Ev

Some E60s hitting the age of your car have experienced cracking of wire insulation in the harness running along the trunk lid hinge that carries the signal to the trunk lock to release the lid (whether from the manual button on the kick panel by the driver's door or from the remote key fob through the CAS system).

If the trunk lid release is intermittent this might suggest frayed insulation as opposed to release that has ceased altogether (actual break in the wire insulation).

Examine this harness to see if you can identify any breaks in the insulation.

A malfunction in the CAS system may also be preventing the release signal from being sent to the trunk lock.
