"Imae34drivers" 1995 540i / 6 speed. Build Thread..

Hey guys, sorry...

I probably should have started this moths ago!

I will be working on this thread in the future till i get it caught up.

This weekend i am pulling my motor and trans to do a full refresh of my engine bay and underside so i wanted to get my build thread started first..

So here we go!!!

Purchased around 9/15/2012 for 1900$ cash in hand its now been just over a year!

Was not into the wheels it came with lol..

Traded for some new 19" BBS LMR's, got some Bav auto springs and stop tech drilled and slotted rotors..

Went threw a few front plates, tinted the windshield..

New oem tail lights, turns tinted out.. Had hideous eBay ones!

Gauge rings and a sparco steering wheel were next..

And a custom exhaust

More Recently ive done a full interior swap. Tan to black

I built a 3.15 LImited slip diff for it..

All aluminum e36 radiator and metal hoses.. Bullet proofed cooling system..

And a nitrous express based wet kit.

This gets me nearly caught up.. For now..

Thanks for starting the thread. You've certainly done a lot to that car. Mad props to you

From an asthetic standpoint, I think those tail lights with the tinted turns is just SICK The way the tint lines up with and matches with the body is so slick looking I've never seen that basic mod and I love it on that black car.

Looking forward to following this thread.

Thank you for the warm reception..

I love the tails too, they look much more sleek and modern IMO..

And make the car seem lower/wider

Trying to remember all work so far..

3 doors, the hood and back bumper are new..

Yellow high beams back and front lip also forgotten .

Nice dude. Ya needed a build thread to go along with your ride with all you have done. What happened to the wheels it came with i actually think they are pretty cool, but that is just from the pics. I too love how you just blacked out the turns looks sweet.

Is that just electrical tape on the headlights?

Also, be careful with those wheels on bumpy roads. The Miros are prone to cracking spokes.

Yes, its electrical tape.. I love it! Absolutly changes the face and i can remove, redo, or adjust it to any expresion free.. Residue comes off easy.. Its great..

Couple vids from last meet for fun.. Need to upload the rest later

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01e46978.mp4

I love this one, 4 seconds in a guy says in a funny tone " dude?, look at that BMW.."

Like wtf is it up next to a e92 m3??? I admit the driver must have dropped the ball somehow, but he sure did not catch up
http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4cd70083.mp4

Raced this Tesla to many times, beat it as my first race.. He got me later on as the temps went up, this didnt affect him.. lol

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0e102ecd.mp4

Finally for now a loss by 1 length to new friends CLK 55 AMG..

We are do for a rematch at irwindale next month.. Im planning on bringing a faster car and slick for the first time..

So this loss is to be avenged.. It personally erked me a bit becuase he really took it from me!
I left on everyone all day with quick r/t's and hard luanches..

But you can just see he got the jump on me with a bette r/t!

What tires are you running? It seems like it gets out of the hole really well but sounds like its not hooking up perfect. How much do those wheels weigh? A huge part of improving drag times is reducing the rotating mass. BBKs and big heavy wheels will slow you down alot more than you think.

Ok, i run Accelora's 235/35/19 soon all around..

They are on BBS LMR reps.. Obviously i understand less wieght = better times, and yes. Of coarse i understand the further advantages of removing the unsprung wieght and or rotating masses other benifits.. Handling, braking not just acceleration.

Now, i never said this was a drag car, its not.. Its a car i use to drag with for fun as well as everything else.

So im not gonna go spend a bunch of money on lighter wheels to save a tenth of a second.. There are far more effective ways to pick up tenths that dont include getting rid of one of the cars nicer features..the rolling diameter is stock..
And these free BBS witch is also already been written in this thread are here to stay till they crack or somthing..

Then ill decide what i want, most likely 18" ACS

Plus,
I just put that i will be bringing slicks to the next event ??
Showing i am not only aware but i have actually accounted for this in a more sensible way..

2 spare oem 15" bbs style 7's with slicks for the back only cost me around 100$

Those are Miro 279s. and thats a slim tire width for the power you have, i dont think ive ever heard of that tire before. Tire diameter being stock is a moot point.

I have a Pair of authentic ACS Type3 18" taking up space in my garage if you wanna mount stickies on them (even for AutoX they'll help you tons). PM me, i'll let them go for very cheap.

No thanks, cheap slicks traditionally come in 15" and i have 2 already..

I have spare 19" bbs i use in the back for drifting..

Im pretty well set..

235 has gotten the power down well enough for me so far..

Between adding a LSD and gears and the tires being new..

Before anything more would break my crap stock motor mounts again.

Now that its solved i plan to really luanch and hook hard at the strip to wipe the score clean with that AMG

But luanching my car hard on street tires has been a great point of pride for me..

I do it well.. Even at the track ( on street tires) few leave along side with me, some faster cars will just catch me given the time..

And when i lose that way, ehhh.. I still out drove him..

Skill only goes so far, then comes money lol..

This $hit is signature worthy.

I AutoX on street tires. In fact i'm first in my class current Road Tire Street Prepared. Street Prepared is one of the more heavily modified classes and so tons of people put on competition tires. It takes alot of skil to control and handle a Street Prepared/Street Modified class car on street tires. I know exactly what you mean.

What gear ratio are you running?

EDIT: I see 3.15

Thank you..

Thats my point exactly.. I go to the track, being an 8th mile helps largly i admitt.

But i just walk around an will challenge any car ( sorta ) on street tires..

Faster car or not 1 mistake theres no forgiveness.. And i am recording this lol...

Kinda makes it more fun..

Im not the worlds greatist driver, nor do i own the worlds fastest car. But together we are enough to give most people hell..

And go largley underestimated 90% of the time..

i used to run 235s on the back of my E34, would wheel spin pulling away, and thats not launching etc, just idle and then foot down.
I run 255s now, and none of that any more. much better. and i can put a bit more faith in powering out of corners now too

I run Bridgestone Potenza RE001s both times.

still have 235 of the same tyre on the front, and the E30 has 205s all round, i wont buy any other tyre now ha

Curious, why not swap a single mass or an aftermarket lightweight flywheel in?

First off, 1,000$ forget that?
It is Priced at about 3-4x its worth..

Second im told by the maker it will be harsh to drive also with a serious clutch..

My OE flywheel looks great, a what appears to be nearly new Sachs oem unit came out..
Just 1mm of wear to my surprise.

Today after a mighty vac finally mafe my clutch work, i got to drive my car for the first time.. Just around my nieghborhood.

On lap 1. i got 3/4 way around and suddenly giant cloud of steem trail of coolant.. 30$ of bmw blue gone!

Replace the spider of hoses found a small split in 1, added water..

Lap 2. I get 3/4 way around seems great mo steem, and then i notice the temp guage at 3/4! O snap coolants gone again! Wtf?

So i pull over to realise the waters actually seeping out of my firewall??! Not just leaking all over it

I think my heater cores busted and after all this work i swapped out a good motor...

Lmmfao... Sorta
