Plastidip

I spent some time reading and watching videos on plastidip....pretty cool idea.

I think I am going to bite the bullet and do the chrome trunk strip and the chrome badging on the trunk decklid in a matte black.

I guess that I need to see the OE shadowline trim and decide whether or not the plastidip should be glossed to match better....

I was going to buy blacked out matte grills too, but plastidip seems the way to go on these too....

If it doesnt look good you simply peel it off with no ill effects.

What am I missing?

Also, since I now know that I'm the typical BMW jerk driver (TY Trigg3r), I prefer the hubris I feel when kickdown creates that giant gap in the rear view mirror.

Lol, in my haste I forgot in the above statement to include what you mentioned about not providing the information about the car through badges (and thereby cost). Anyway, I imagine you have already seen GT_Dinan's car, the plasti-dip does make for a very nice look. The ease of application and removal is a huge plus if you don't like it in the end.

Are those photos of yours in hand? It seems they got it to you super fast if true! Ours took so long to finalize...we committed to buy July 22 and didn't receive the car until Aug 9. It was torture!!

I too was thinking about debadging (debadged my last 2 cars) in part because the "GT" and "550" are a tad too big IMO and in part b/c I do not like making it even more clear to the world that my car costs more. But the subtlety of blacking out the model designations against a black car definitely appeals to me. As for the front grills, it seems that this is a common use for plastidip with no ill effects due to engine heat. The only use that is questionable would be for "track" wheels given how hot the brakes get and the heat transfer to the wheels.

The youtube videos on plastidip are pretty cool and show how easy it is to use, how good it can look and how temporary it is (easily removed with zero damage). The only prep is cleaning/wiping with alcohol

Plastidip

I have plastidipped my chrome strip, sidemarkers, door handle inserts, rear diffuser, and badges, and they have held without any repair for over a year so dark with little maintenance.

Don't debadge a 550, just black it out. It subtle, but people know you're not join around when they see it.
