Roof racks without roof rails? (BMX X3 F25 2013)

Hi

I have a BMW X3 2013 (F25) without roof rails and would like to put roof rack on the car because we would like to have the possibility to put a cargo box (ski trips) or bikes on top.

I went to BMW Minnetonka yesterday and they said I could use BMW Base support system and I got a print out from them. I read when getting home that the base support system requires roof rails. Strange that they said I could use the base support system because I was explicit that I don't have roof rails.

Anyway, is there any option to put a on a roof rack without rails (I know it is possible on other cars)? I have been going through the forum here on bimmerfest and also did some searches online and all options I found, except one, requires rails. Is this really true? I dont feel like spending 500 USD + labor cost (500?) to retrofit rails.

The only option I found that doesn't require roof rails is called Rhino Rack. Does anyone here have experience of Rhino Rack or can recommend any other roof racks not requiring roof rails?

Any support is appreciated!_a_

I would also like to install a roof rack. I can't see how the rails would be installed without removing the headliner though.

Roof racks without roof rails? (BMX X3 F25 2013)

I had the same problem and bought the rhino rack to put a roof rack on. Works great and relatively inexpensive.

I don't have experience with bike racks on them though. Bought a tow hitch and thule system for my mountain bikes.

you are correct. The headliner has to come down in order to install the bmw roof rails.

I have silver roof rails for sale that were on my 2014 X3 for 2 weeks. The headliner needs to be dropped down, but not removed for installation on the 2014 X3. I also have the bicycle cross rails for sale. If interested PM me.

It is not a big deal. $200 at a body shop. it does not come out like the 2013 and later models. It just drops down and is suspended.

Curious why you would remove them and what you did with the holes in the roof

I was after a particular look. I replaced the stock silver rails with black rails on our black 2014 X3.

About how much

About how much did it cost you to get the roof rails. Parts and installation?

We have silver rail racks and would like to switch to black. Does anyone have any advice on doing this? Any paint you can apply to the silver? Can you buy new ones, if so where and how much? Thanks!!

Brought the X3 in for its first service, asked him what the cost is to have the roof rails installed. $1580 plus tax. Later Dude!

I can really get away with using a Rhino Rack instead of buying and installing roof rails to put a roof rack on? I have a 2013 x3 and I would do anything not to have to spend that much time and money on installing roof rails first.

So there is no need for roof rails with Rhino Rack correct?!

Note that the 2014's are easier than pre models.
