Wait, is there enough room between the frame and the turbo, or does that require minimum room?

The turbo clearance is fine, but I just noticed the compressor outlet. It's pretty close to the frame tube. Is there enough room for an elbow in there, Matt?

Re: Hellrot Turbo Build

Motor won't be moving so clearance is good. I need to clock the turbo, it can be rotated to any degree so the frame rail won't be an issue.

yeah, i saw that earlier but wasn't certain if the turbo was clockable or not, but figured matt has a pretty good idea what is going on.

and if not, would probably just cut a hole to fit....

Didn't get as much done as I had hoped tonight. I tightened up the subframe and motor mounts, attached the rear coolant/heater hoses, installed correct dipstick tube O ring, and connected the steering shaft.

AKG mounts and such

Had a few hours to spare today so more work got done. I'm really trying to get all the annoying pita jobs done now. I was able to reinstall the control arms, and sway bar end links. I put on a new M50 slave cylinder with a UUC SS clutch line (got illegal super blue fluid EVERYWHERE!!) and also installed my UUC EVO short shifter and DSSR. The water pump pulley had a hairline crack so I bolted up one I had laying around and installed the belt.

The old ground wire was nasty and chewed up so I bolted up a new one as well. Then installed the power steering lines and I figured I would start putting the front end together.

Food for thought, I'm thinking of running the coolant drain alone the top like the oil feed and coolant feed, then around the back of the engine to the block drain. I'm hoping this will keep the exhaust manifold heat off of it, or should I just leave it as is?

Yes, and to be sure I'm going to buy some reflective heat tape for the hood and fender.

I finished all the turbo feeds and drains tonight, ended up changing the coolant drain. I made another line that goes under the intake manifold, behind the engine, and to the block drain. I'm happy with how it looks and it's away from manifold heat. I may end up shortening or getting a different angle fitting for the oil drain, but for now it should work well. Some coolant hoses needed hooked up so I did that, then installed the radiator and some front end parts. It's coming along nicely. Even my Depo HID headlights fit with this turbo, however it looks like I'll just be running some type of turbo screen, no filter.

I need to do some trimming of the bumper support to get the intercooler to fit, so that will have to wait until I can borrow a plasma cutter. Then I'll mount it and start meausring and cutting intercooler piping and a downpipe.

Anyone have links to some intercooler piping, probably J bends? I'll need downpipe material as well.

Coming from a person with car OCD this looks super clean. Great job on the install thus far Matt I'm loving it. The feed/drain lines look stupendous. How/s the whole turbo/headlight/airfilter thing going to work out? OR are you just running a screen?

Got the intercooler rmounted up tonight. Took a few hours but it came out just perfect. I used two pieces of angel aluminum and one piece of aluminum flat stock. I'm going to add two more bolts to the nose panel for added strength.

Unfortunately I didn't cut enough of this off
