E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

Hi All,

Just bought a used 2008 135i convertible with the M Sport package. It's been a while since I've owned a BMW (I owned a 2002 530i 5 speed for 4 years), and it's good to be back. I have 76K miles on the car. It's been serviced by a dealer and bought from a dealer here in CA. Couple of questions for the group. 1st and foremost, what do I want to make sure to do/has been done maintenance wise with this many miles or in the next 20k miles? Also, I have a rattle I experience, only when the top is up, and coming from the back of the car. Almost seems like some piece of the top is not fully connected and there's something dangling that rattles when you go over any bumps. Any ideas? It's driving me batty. My only consolation is that the weather is so nice in SO CAL that I can leave the top down most of the time!

Thanks,

Joe

If its been serviced by a dealer then they've probably done everything they're supposed to maintenance wise. However, you should consider getting the trans and diff fluids replaced. The dealer won't do this because they are "lifetime" fluids, so find a good indy shop that knows BMWs.

Unfortunately rattles seems to be very common in 1 series. I just got brand new car last week and one rattle in the rear area is driving me nuts. I think in my case it might be seat belt plugs resting on the rear seat hitting the child restraint mechanism plastic cover.

I had 3 series for 2 years, not a single rattle. This car seems to have a lot more of them from the get go.

I have a dash rattle that is driving me nuts. However, I have found how to make it go away. Every time I bring it to the dealer, it's stops rattling and they can't diagnose it. :P

Granted I'm only 2 years and 24,000 miles into 1-series ownership.... but rattles in the coupe; I basically have ALMOST zero. I've had a creaking from the iDrive screen surround that the dealer fixed under warranty... and I had a problem with the dome light where the housing it was in became loose. It was REALLY annoying because it was almost impossible to isolate the location of the sound even if you were sitting in the back. Anyway, dealer fixed that under warranty. In the coupe at least, the dome light housing is connected to the roof with some heavy-duty velcro; if that peels loose from the roof of the car then the rattle occurs.

Probably won't help OP... but might help somebody else

Thanks all for the feedback. Much appreciated. I figured I would get an email notifying me when someone responded to my post, but I haven't. Was pleasantly surprised to see all the responses today. Rattle is still there, but I don't think it's anything major and I just keep the top down most of the time. Now on to my next post. What to upgrade!

Just picked up a 2008 135i. 6 speed manual and fully loaded with every option AAAANNNDDD it only has 41k miles. Never owned a BMW before, so Ive popped that cherry. Always fancied myself a Nissan man. Own a 2005 Anniversary 350z all duked up and nice.

So whats the low down on the 135i? I purchased mine after a 30 minute test drive. Gotta say this is a quick little car, moreso than my Z. Since its fully loaded with so much, I feel like Im overlooking some of the features.

Anyone in the Honolulu area? I need friends
