If I may ask what does a body shop in the USA ask to strip, panelbeat, spray, assemble and gap a E30 ?
I am talking about a no rust, no serious dents (only the usual shopping trolley ones) and in the same colour.
Here they start at 1.5 Grand...

Nick, in So Cal it would be about $2K for a good outcome.

ya, I would agree with mark.

It definitely ranges. If you go to car star or maco, you can get a respray for pretty cheap. but a proper job is 2 or 3 grand.

My car had alot of rust, a lot of rust...... plus i needed some new panels and am having them install a few things.

So my overall bill will probably be around 4 grand. Canada is more expensive than the states.

Boy that looks nice. I would really like to repaint mine. Maybe next year. I can say that blacked out window trim looks really good on a silver car. I did mine last fall and it's salmon silver.

since the body shop is still taking some time and i dont have updated pics.

I thought i would post some older ones from earlier in the project. I wanted to do a build thread but somewhat spread my questions and whatnot all over the place.

So i will go from here. New title: "0-> 60, 4.2.... years"

bought the car for $400.00. At first i tried to trade my xbox 360, all games and racing wheel and pedals, (which i hadn't used since uni) but it was a no go.

towed it home:

when i got it home, it was full of empty beer cans, cigarette butts jammed in the ash trays, and a bong under the drivers seat.

It had been sitting for a while, even though the previous owner said he had been driving it.

It had no brakes. no brakes..

I removed stereo lighting that was causing issues.

This is my first E30.

I used the fest and my Bentleys manual to get through most of my pre project research.

my first project was the brakes, they were completely rotted.
As I got further into the brake project, i realized that all control rods, tie rods, sway bar links, rotors, calipers, all lines, needed to be replaced.

the brake job consumed about 3 years of the project. the control arms and tire rods, sway bar links, and control arm bushings are easy.

(I am waiting to do the sway bar links with the new suspension when i get it)

during the 1st and 2nd year of the project i was bored, not really knowing how to move forward. So i just messed with the body and tried to clean it up.

the bumper swap i started a year ago.

I am obviously not in a rush.

I went with the larger IS lip instead of the piece of plastic shown in the pictures. but i think it looks good like this as well. (minus the paint miss match and the missing bits)

with downhillers help, i managed to sort through a fuel delivery issue.

I replaced some fuel lines, filter, removed the injectors and had them sonicly cleaned, replaced the distributor, rotor, all plugs, ignition cables.

I still have the timing and water pump to do. i have some front end seals and my transmission seals to re do. I will then replace the exhaust as the previous owner put on a very loud one. it sounds terrible.

I have since replaced the transmission filter and pan seal.

once I finish the engine and trany work it will be ready for this summer! My guess is i will find a bunch of more crap that goes wrong as i drive it more. I have owned this car for 4 years and have only driven it 2 km. having never driven an e30 before.

so i am pretty excited to finally drive it.
