2014 Audi RS7 vs. 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe, 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S-model

It's a 4-door coupe battle royal! That's what you get when you take the 3 heavy hitters in the segment : Audi's RS7, BMW's M6 Gran Coupe, the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S-mode, and put them head to headÖ.to head. Porsche's Panamera would have rounded out the group, but for some reason they chose not to participate.
All three cars offer big power, over 550hp, mixed with a high level of comfort and good looks. Prices for these three beasts start just over the $100k mark. While each has it's good and bad points, there had to be one that came out on top, and that was the Audi RS7. The order ended up like this:
1. Audi RS7
2. BMW M6 Gran Coupe
3. Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S-model
In this battle, the Audi scored high in driver comfort and ergonomics, rear seat space, and due to it's hatch back, trunk space. Fit, finish and styling also ranked high. Chassis and powertrain were the BMW's strong points. The M6 Gran Coupe's steering and handling got high marks, as well as it's fuel economy. The Merc. trailed behind but wasn't too far off the game.

The M6 Gran Coupe was repeatedly praised for its performance in this test, both subjectively and objectively. It recorded the fastest slalom time thanks to prodigious grip and unflappable stability. The optional carbon-ceramic brakes have great top-of-pedal response, and the M6ís stopping distance was just one foot longer than the RS7ís.
The weighty steering isnít as quick as we might like, but it reacts to every small adjustment. And in the Gran Coupeís body motions, thereís no evidence of the M5ís nervous up-down clip. The Gran Coupe masters ride and handling trade-offs in a way thatís been notably missing from other recent BMWs. Even in sport-plus mode, the M6 retains a suppleness thatís absent from the Audi and the Mercedes.
The torque delivery from the 4.4-liter engine is especially linear, smoothing out the typical turbo wallop and placing both the power peak and redline higher in the rev range. The 552-hp M engine also sounds like no other turbo eight-cylinder. Higher pitched and with a prominent turbo whir, itís part sci-fi special effects (some of the soundtrack actually comes from the stereo speakers) and part race-bred howl.
