Catch rides with Billy A., Boris and Joey Hand
Hi All -
Got this info regarding the Oktoberfest track school at Cal. Speedway in Fontana: 1) Students can sign up with just a day pass ($60-$75) and the DS fee ($150) and not have to sign up for the whole O'fest. If they want to spend more money, they can pay $295 for the school and skip the day pass, but that seems a little dumb to me. 2) We aren't limited to BMW's. Non club members would have to join the CCA but they can do so regardless of what they drive and they can run this school (and most Pacific Retion schools) in any street worthly car. 3) BMW NA is bringing the following to the track: -a McLaren F1 GTR -a M1 grp 4 Procar -the 1996 PTG M3 Sebring winner -a 1977 320 turbo fresh from the restoration shop, if it's running -their new BMW Vintage Race Truck -Bill Auberlen -Boris Said -Joey Hand The three gentlemen listed last will be giving rides in the cars listed first. If someone signs up for the school on a day pass, they may attend all the other activites that day, (Vendor hall reception on Tuesday night, Petersen Museum dinner on Wednesday). Applications are on the BMW CCA National website: www.bmwcca.org

BMW NA did that a couple years back at NHIS for O Fest. I was not fortunate enough to get a ride, but the lines were long and everyone got out grinning ear to ear.
Actually, I think Boris drove the street McLaren F1 on the track that was there from TMS if I remember right. Definitely worth the ride no matter where it is.

Actually, in Geoff's defense, the car was overheating and it's likely that coolant got under the right front tire. I like how Brad O. told me while the car was in the garage, "Welcome to racing" What could I do but thank him for that warm welcome and laugh it off

Just got an email from the cca, looks like the rides will be by raffle.
Maybe it's just me, but I think a ride should be mandatory for all DE participants. Oh well, hopefully the odds are good. But hey, at least Leno will get a ride. here's the email: "Time is getting short and you won't want to miss out on this fabulous opportunity. Join us Tuesday or Wednesday at California Speedway where BMW NA will be raffling limited rides in the M1 Pro Car, the E36 M3 race car (Yokohama car) and the BMW McLaren. Be whisked around the track by Bill Auberlen, Boris Said or Joey Hand. All three drivers will be on hand Wednesday evening at the Petersen Museum. Who knows who you'll see and meet? A very popular late night television host is rumored to be quite interested in a quick trip around the track."
