No recall for me?

I just learned of the batt terminal recall today from a friend. I only have the car 5 weeks, and its a 2010 328i coupe, which falls under the dates of manufacture for this. I checked on the BMW website, and it says there is no recall for my car. Maybe the dealer did the recall while it was in their inventory? Or maybe while the PO had it? I will call the dealer tomorrow.

I've got the exact same car and mine was covered under the recall. Also had the dealer check the battery as I though it was cranking slowly. The did the recall and replaced the battery at the same time. I felt pretty good that afternoon Call your dealer.

I think the recall you refer to is not "battery terminal". it's for a bad battery CABLE. Two very different things. Any dealer can confirm whether your car is included or not.

Have your VIN handy when you call the dealer, unless they already have that information.

Good to go...but under federal law (NHTSA) car dealerships are forbidden to sell new or used cars that are subject to safety recalls until they have been "remedied" (repaired).

Significant federal civil penalties apply for selling un-remedied vehicles (private sales are exempt).

The NHTSA is now proposing a rule (regulation) that will make it mandatory for all car makers to provide the public with an "easy look-up" for vehicle VIN numbers to determine if any vehicle subject to a prior safety recall was in fact "fixed."

Recall

Mine is a 2011 328xi with a manufacture date of December 2011. I have not received any notification and I forgot to ask when it was in for service a couple of months ago.
I guess I should call.

My car was built the same month as yours (I think you meant December 2010 if it is 2011) and was done at my last oil change. I originally thought I did not receive a letter until I found it in the mail junk pile! Since I don't get the mail first every day it's a common problem in my house. My dealer actually called and told me to come in for it based on the service alert (oil change) my car sent them, so I thought that was pretty cool!

Recall

Actually the plate on the driver side door says 12/11.
I am told this is a 2011 model.

If you took it in for service they would pull the vin and their computer would tell them their is a recall and they would have done it, Unless you went in before the recall was official

The recall is not for the cable. It's for the terminal at the fuse panel. The dealer fix is to remove the old terminal and crimp on a new one, clean the terminal on the fuse panel, and put it back together.

If you aren't having issues with the car and you can visually inspect the fuse panel/connection, I would skip the recall.

Some dealerships do a very poor job of crimping that new terminal on. I've had to fix 2 "recall claims" done at the dealership because they didn't properly crimp the terminal on. Pretty sad a dealership can't perform such a simple repair.

I've been avoiding the dealership, I admit I am a little too weird and paranoid about it, forgive me, but thanks to your post I intend to look into how to inspect it. Thanks for your post! (I had previously and very briefly looked for a DIY because even as a noob I trust myself more than the dealership, but apparently there is a special tool that they have to do this.)

It does require a crimp tool that is not common for a backyard mechanic to have. But other methods can be devised to make it work.

I see... hey if you ever see any good links, tips, DIYs in the future (or past), I am definitely all ears, thank you...
