Angry iphone 5 Y Cable Not Supported

** HELP ** I tried to connect my iphone5 through USB with an apple white USB cable (which came with the phone) to play music with idrive. Can play through AUX no problem but after connecting USB it was reading for a few seconds then came up with message 'not supported' After reading threads on here I purchased the 'BMW Y cable for iphone5' from Amazon. Thought this would solve my problem - but no. Still saying 'not supported' arrrggghhhhh !!!!

Is yours a Y cable specifically for the iphone 5 or are you using the old type iphone 4 Y cable with a lightening adapter. I am going to return this iphone 5 Y cable as the reviews on Amazon for it all say they don't work. Should have read the reviews first I suppose !!

I have a 2011 with the CIC based iDrive. I use the BMW "Y" cable (bought from eBay for like $35) and the apple lightning adapter (from 30-pin dock, to that damn lightning jack) and it works fine with my iPhone 5. It plays anything in my music library, pandora podcast app etc. It knows the artist and track names etc. It pauses and plays automatically when starting and stopping the car or switching inputs.

hope that helps,

New on the forums here, but not entirely new to BMW. I have a 2014 X1 without the iDrive or Nav. I bought this cable from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Cooper-cable-i...bmw+ipod+cableand my car is not recognizing the iPhone 5 at all through USB, it just says "Insert USB" when I select it. I have tried to read through all of the topics on this but it is not clear if my setup would/should work. Do I need a combox, new Y-cable, iDrive, the snap in adapter, advanced bluetooth or just a new car entirely? I tried the standard Apple USB lightening cable and it does nothing but charge the phone when inserted in the USB.

yea its weird. my cheapo iphone 5 cable from amazon works for aux but then my iphone is no longer recognized for bluetooth streaming. it does, more importantly, still connect for bluetooth calling.
