- update NBT iDrive Combox to the latest software (search for link, this has been discussed already)
- enable email notifications in your iPhone.
- pair iPhone to your M5
- go to the iPhone and stop email app (double click home button, swipe email app up). This will have to be done each and every time you get in your car after iPhone is paired.
- emails will be displayed in the iDrive screen via envelope icon and accessed under Messages

I tried. Could not swipe email app up. How do you do it?

Do you have iOS7? That applies only to iOS7 -swipe the email screen up after pressing the Home button twice.

In iOS6, press Home twice and then press the little "x" on the upper corner of the email icon.
