E63 / E64 6 Series (2003 - 2013)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Power Steering/Oil

I am not to proud to admit that I went to top off my engine oil and actually placed a small amount of fully synthetic fluid in the power steering reservoir. I have read numerous replies that this should be ok and then others suggest a system drain and flush. I have drove the car a couple hundred miles since the brain fart and no signs of any issues. Looking for some advice.

Looks like sport package, hence dynamic drive. With dynamic drive you have the a fairly involved system that uses the fluid and the dynamic drive block with a network of passages, valves, and seals. That block has had reports of failure, so I would do a flush if it were my car. Note that it does not use standard power steering fluid / trsns fluid you need a pricy fluid, again due to dynamic drive...

Thanks for the information. After realizing what a bird brain mistake I had made I did some research and found that you are correct. I have drained the system and found the proper fluid at NAPA ($21.00 a quart). I am waiting for the fluid to arrive and plan on flushing a couple times. The fluid I removed looked like it probably needed changed anyway. The good news is that I did not add much oil to the system or operate the car so I think I will be OK. I was amazed to find such information that this would not hurt anything to having an impact on the seals and pumps. I hope once I flush the system a couple times and replenish with new fluid that I will be OK. I guess time will tell.

A friend of mine did the same thing 3 years ago in his 550 with Dynamic Drive, ignored it and has never had a problem. I am not saying this is the correct way of handling it, but I don't think the sky is falling either!

Probably not a bad idea to do this as part regular maintenance. I did mine at 40k over the summer. I figured it was a ounce of prevention given the cost of that dynamic drive block. Hoping those valves and seals are enjoying the fresh fluid.

When I drained the fluid it did not look like normal (clear) power steering fluid. However, when I put the new CHF S11 in I found out that this fluid is actually dark in color. Drove the car all day after the event and no signs of any issues. I guess it is probably good to change the fluid anyway since I have 60 thousand on her. During my research of this event I found allot of information on seeing if the mixed fluid (oil and fluid) produced any bubbles or any weird physical appearance and after closely looking at the drained fluid I saw no signs of a mixture gone bad. Once again thanks for the replies and information. I really enjoy this sight and appreciate all of the shared information.

Actually CHF11 should be a light red or pink color that is clear, not dark.

Not to step on your toes roseng, but I'm very positive that the Pentosin CHF11S fluid is a dark green color. This is the only fluid that I believe is acceptable for the 645Ci/650i.

It is a dark green. You are correct. The reservoir is marked to use only CHF 11S and this is a dark green color(Pentosin). The new fluid was the same color as the fluid that I drained out of the system. It was not pink or red.

I could be wrong about the color since it was over a year ago, but it was CHF11s and I do distinctly remember it being light in color but that may only have been compared to the black looking stuff I removed.
