[Review]:Can't believe it. One year with the M3

I can't believe I've been fortunate enough to already own this car for a year already. ~7,500 miles on the car and it brings a smile to my face each and every time I press the start button. It's really a marvelous piece of engineering, and probably the last 'race' inspired motor we'll see from BMW in a long while. After a year, here are my impressions.

Interior:

The interior has held up very well! No rattles, no creaks so far.(knock on wood) The interior while some think it's spartan, I would disagree and I like the clean look of the interior. In my eyes, the car's interior is typical BMW, focused. I love the fact that I don't have to search through 1,000 buttons to find what I want on the center stack. iDrive has really come a long way and I can say it's probably the best infotainment system on the market today. The one thing that drastically needs improvement is BMW's Navigation system. As good as the iDrive system is, the navigation system sucks and goes to the other side of the spectrum. The worst system in the industry.

The Nappa Leather is very soft. You see it age a lot quicker, cracks, creases show themselves early. I've found out that the way to negate this is leather a good leather cleaner and conditioner at least once every two weeks. I use WolfGang leather cleaner and conditioner, and I've been successful and found that it works the best for upkeep. My leather looks decent using this method if not learning towards the new side.

Drive:

Well, it's an M3. The car drives amazing! You feel planted through turns, and while you do get understeer, the car gives you confidence. My 328xi didn't inspire me to chuck the car into turns the way this thing does. The one thing that I did change was the servo feel. It was light so I got BPM to tune the steering for me and I have no idea why it didn't come like this from the factory.

Mods?

Absolutely! I have the ESS Full Exhaust, BPM Stage 2 Tune, CF Splitters, LUX V3 Angel Eyes, and a bunch more! The stage 2 tune really made a difference in how I start. No need to start with the power button on anymore. Torque management has been changed for the better and again, I don't know why BMW didn't bring the car like this from the factory.

Engine:

The S65 has to be my favorite engine of all time in the cars that I've driven, and I've had the privilege of driving a lot of cars short of high end exotics(One day maybe?) I love the 8,400 RPM redline! This engine just loves to sing, and I occasionally love listening and letter her stretch her legs a bit. Yes, that means gas and oil but I got this car full well knowing that ownership will require things like that. The unbelieve thing is I'm averaging 19.2 MPG with a split of crazy driving and cruising. The S65 not efficient? For an engine of this caliber, I'd say it is.

My class is starting so I'm not able to add onto this, but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I look forward to another 2 years of ownership(MAYBE more ) but to say that I'm amazed is an understatement. The M3 just eats corners very well for a car of this weight and comfort, it's crazy. Amazing car, and the last of a dying breed. I'll put up some pictures of my car before and after later when I get a chance.

Right? Yeah, I have been nicely surprised at my 18-19mpg averages. I totally expected about 14-15 before I got the car. I'm not exactly light on it, though I know I don't drive her nearly as hard as some do

When people ask, I tend to just say I get better gas mileage than the SUV's most of my colleagues seem to drive... and worse gas mileage than most cars... but more grins per mile than most anything short of an Aston Martin.

It's a great car and you appreciate the duality of the thing.

Good you drive 60 miles to take someone down the street to a bar too

I just actually calculated it 4 months and 4 days for me Almost 4k a month I hope you put it in D5/S5 + Power and all sport + aggressive settings I was filling up once a day or two.

Really? I'd be happy to see 14 mpg.

I never was a fan of the E60 m5 in terms of driving dynamics. E92 and F10 are much better IMHO.

The F10 while comfortable, is just too quiet. You don't really get the sensation you're driving. At all. It's got grunt though.
