M4

New M4 Site. Nice looking. BMW dealers are considering it a small M6

Would you consider the M4?

That side window profile looks like it came right off the E63...!

Hell yes i would consider an M4!

But next for me will be either an E60 M5 (cant get over the sound of that V10 with an eisemann exhaust) or an E92 M3

I looked at the 4 series in the showroom. Seemed a lot smaller than the 6 but bigger then the 3. MY guess is that it will replace the 3 series over time. NIce but I'll stay with the 6 series.

Not a bad looking car, but I'll stay with NA engines. It's still weird to say that one drives an M4 as opposed to an M3.
When I think of an M4, I think of a rifle, not a car lol.

I like the lines & the look, but I love the 6! I wouldn't want anything smaller than the 6.

Even numbered BMW's will be coupes and odd numbers sedans...

Power will once again be in line with M3 lineage. An inline six-cylinder with two mono-scroll turbochargers and direct injection will be bolted under the hood. The high-revving inline six will be capable of 430 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque at over 7,500 rmp. While it not only produces more ponies than the outgoing M3 V8, it will also achieve 25 percent better fuel economy.

Good news manual fans; despite rumors, the M3 and M4 will retain the manual gearbox option alongside the seven-speed M double clutch transmission (DCT) with launch control.

Weight is pegged at an impressively low 3,306 pounds.

Designers kept curb weight low through the inclusion of several carbon fiber structures, including the drive shaft, roof, trunk (M4 only), and front strut brace. The driveshaft, for instance weighs 40 percent less than the steel unit in the fated M3 Coupe with additional stiffness, which will more efficiently pipe power to the Active M rear Differential.

Further lightness comes from a set of lightweight forged wheels as standard at all four corners, a new five-link rear axle made from forged aluminum, and aluminum suspension.

All told, the M3 and M4 should sport perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

Cooling will come from an electric water pump that circulates coolant through three radiators: one for each high- and low-temperature circuits, turbocharger, and transmission.

Audi RS5
Weight - 4009Lbs
HP - 450
TQ - 317lbs
RPM - 8500 RPM

MB C63 Coupe
Weight - 3935Lbs
HP - 451
TQ - 443Lbs
RPM - 6500 RPM

BMW M4/M3
Weight - 3306Lbs
HP - 430HP
TQ - 369
RMP - 7500 RPM

Audi R8 V8
Weight - 3583Lbs
HP - 430HP

I'm not saying that the M4 would be a direct competitor to the 991 Carrera S, but the power to weight ratio on the M4 doesn't seem too far off from the 991. The 991 weighs about close to 3,100 pounds. I'm not a fan of FI power plants, but the numbers look impressive.

Plus, I doubt most people will stay at 430 hp. I'm guessing Dinan and the rest will have flash tunes that'll safely add another 50hp/60 Ib ft torque on stock internals!

I can't get behind this car if purely for the fact of what it stands for. Enthusiasts are in the minority, but so are true M cars - killing off the legendary m3 for market saturation and continued dilution of the brand is saddening. M will soon mean nothing as is now evident with AMG.

That said, I know in a few years one will most likely be in my garage. I'm a effing slave to the BMW brand.

The power to weight ratio would be crazy with the tune.

I'd like my next coupe to be an i8. I won't buy a first production year car. So that means maybe 2016 model year plus 3 years to knock 50% off the price... Maybe in 2019?

So will they number the convertible a 4.5? Someone is seriously overthinking this number stuff!

I was at the dealer yesterday and they had a 435 in the showroom. It reminds me of a "slightly" smaller E63. The interior didnt "seem" any smaller than the E63. Overall it made me feel that my car was getting old.....(

Was at the dealership yesterday too. Saw the 4, not sure if it was an M, but they had the M6 right next to it and I sat in both to feel them out.

Two different worlds. The 6 blows away the 4 in every way. Didn't feel like a small 6 to me, more like a fat 3. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, interior looks really good, but a little cheaper feeling than the 6, definitely smaller. All it made me do was want the new 6.

From what my dealer told me, the target is to replace the 3 series, so you are on the money. I think they are pulling a lot of the styling cues from the 6 series to give it a refreshed look.

Nice but not a 6 for sure.
