F10 M5 (2012 - 2016)
The 5th generation M5 has the V8 S63 TU engine with twin turbos under the hood producing 550hp. The engine and DCT gear box pusses the M5 0-60 in just 4.2 seconds.

Next generation M5 AWD ?

Just curious how many of you have heard about BMW saying the next generation M5 could be available with AWD option and if you think it will happen ? I personally think it will happen and I will take a hard look at AWD. When I traded my dinan 550 xdrive in for the M5 that's the biggest option I thought I might miss, espcially being up here in the northeast. Although having a chevy avalanche, the 550 never saw snow covered roads. My other issue is I do not know if I would want to pass up the 6 speed manual option for AWD.

But will the M5 performance be better with AWD ? TRACTION AND INITIAL TAKE OFF SHOULD BE BETTER.

I read a story about how the M division took the lead in developing CFRP usage over the i team, and that more and better uses came from that.

If the M division takes the lead on AWD for M cars and doesn't have to 'slap on' existing technology there's more a chance of this being good, if they decide to do it. Trickle down for new tech.

BMW needs to at least offer the M5 in AWD with the S5 and now E63 AMG being AWD

I would think the AWD option will help but it will be at a real cost increase on the buy in and throughout maintenance.

I thought the aim was to reduce the weight of the M cars, retain similar power but increased performance and economy. A 4 wheel drive system will increase weight significantly.
