Question Playing DVDs?

While reading through the manual when I first got my X1 a few weeks ago I noticed that it said it will play DVD movies on the iDrive screen while in park. So I finally got around to trying this last night and...it didn't work. I popped in 2 different DVDs and both did the same thing, just a black screen. The iDrive seemed to recognize there was a DVD in there but nothing would display or could be heard through the speakers.

Is there some trick I'm missing here? Anyone got it to work? I tried with the car in accessory mode and with the engine running (in park with e-brake on both times).

On a separate note, I did hook up my old 30Gb iPod to the USB port in the glove box and successfully transferred all our iTunes songs onto the internal HDD. Pretty cool and very easy! Now I can get the superior quality of the music from the HDD vs Bluetooth streaming (although Bluetooth actually is pretty darn good).

Works fine for me. I keep the Godfather in the drive for anytime I'm sitting in the car waiting on someone.

Hmm...I'll give it a shot again tomorrow with a couple more DVDs. My son wanted Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in there, but that was one of the ones that didn't work.

Playing DVDs?

It doesn't work with blu Ray DVDs. Just old school DVDs. Mine works great. With the HK premium sound system, the surround sound is awesome and almost as good as my home theatre.

I was thinking about finding someone to change the code so passengers can watch movies while on long road trips.
