Talking Buying a new 760Li vs Alpina B7

When "my ship comes in" i.e. I "hit the lottery" I was wondering what model you guys would purchase. A 760Li or an Alpina B7? I also can't easily determine if the B7 comes in an "Li" version...................... Just dreaming!

There are no E66 B7's, only E65's. They newer model B7 does come in the Li style.

Excuse my language but the Alpina is one sexy MF'er.

The new 2014 Alpina B7 can be bought in i or LI version and also xdrive and it has more power than the FO1 760 which has the same engine since 2010 I believe

Not easy to choose between the two but if I had to I'll go for the 25 year edition 760.

Looked at both the 25yr edition of the 760LI and the Alpina B7 LWB, ended up with the Alpina.

The 760 anniversary edition was just too cheesy on the inside with "25" embossed on the seats and other stuff that was just too gaudy.

I ended up with the Alpina B7. I love the car 90% of the time and it is a beast. The other 10% makes me wish I had chosen something else. More on that down the road.

I would never buy a car where I had a 10% feeling I should have gotten something else. Its 100% or nothing.

I did not say that I was 90% satisfied before purchase. I was 100% happy with my decision on the front end. After six months, I love driving the car except when rolling to a comfortable, leisurely stop. The other way to put it is that the car has been in the shop for 10% of the time I have owned it.

Congrats. If it weren't for the V12 I would have voted for the Alpina. But come to think of it the guys at Alpina build a better car and I love the body style. Their version of a V12 if it ever existed would be epic. Did you get the current Alpina or a E65?

At least for now? You make it seem like it's a bad thing. You are driving one of the baddest cars on the forum lol.

"Baddest"? I guess so, when I get to drive it. It has been in service at least six separate times in six months and currently has a couple other problems, one they can fix and one they have not been able to fix and it does not look like they will be able to fix anytime soon.

My local dealer has been great, but I have a real problem with BWW quality right now.

I agree with the quality issues. I have never owned such a fragile car. You would think that owning a 2013 you wouldnt have to waste your time taking it in for repairs.

B7 no question about it! Much sportier, lacks issues involving V12 engine and is a complete BEAST!

It is a bit ironic that BMW would offer two autos that are essentially competing for the same niche. Obviously the 760 has 12 cylinders vs. 8 for the B7 . Both are similar in price, performance, weight and BMW allows an Alpina B7 but NOT an M7. I wonder "What they were thinking". What made them decide to offer a 12 cylinder and with the trend of high performance getting smaller and more efficient marks the death nell for The V12. It's kind of like the old 100 watt Marshall guitar stacks vs. the current trend to use small amps and pedals the create the same sound minus 85% of the weight and bulk to achieve similar, more versatile, or better sound but not needing a Semi to move it around. Thanks to everyone for your replies and comments.

The advantage of the v12 is how smooth it is. You can balance a dime on the engine at idle. The b7 is more brute force.
