Key fob issues, car doesnt accept it anymore

2002 745li non comfort access key
My unlock button quit working and rather than be raped by the dealership i cut it open as seen in some videos to find the button for the unlock had come un soldered.
As i did not have time to do the button repair right then i closed the key back up and ran a line of tape around it to hold until i had time this evening to fix it. Nothing inside the key was altered simply viewed. however now the car will not accept my key to start or do anything else.
The key is still alive the lock / trunk buttons work, but when you insert it, it only goes into the first "catch" which holds the key from falling out. if you push it further in it does not hold and the spring simply pushes it back out. it also does not power anything even if you hold it in place. after reading and watching videos etc i am stuck. any advice that isn't "lol go bend over at the dealership"

Glue it back together and make sure it's line up exactly right. If you just taped it, there's no way the car will accept it.

Your (cas) has taken a dump! Been there done that with my 2002 745i.....in my case it wouldn't hold key fob into the (cas) to start car. Key just would slid right back out.

so.

i repaired the broken switch inside the fob and now the unlock and all other buttons function properly. i also glued the fob back together taking care to make it line up properly. however the same problems occurs. the key goes in and does catch ~ 1/2 way in, in the pre turn on position. then once it is pushed all the way it in will not catch and releases back to the 1/2 position. (it does not fall completely out.)

i took a flashlight and pressed the internal slider in the cas in slowly to inspect for any visible damage, both on top and bottom there are plastic tabs which hold the key in place and they are both undamaged, and the entire internal mechanism looks clean and undamaged front to back. I can see the cas going out, but at exactly the same time as the key was worked on ?, that seems a little too coincidental unless the key physically damaged it which does not appear to be the case.

i appreciate the quick reply's guys, any additional ideas would be helpful. i hate the idea of dropping dealership money to replace cas and keys and be wrong about it.

I would try filing both sides of the key fob were you split it apart & then
gluing it back together . The key Fob is very touchy & precise in its
measurements & thickness .

Re: Key fob issues, car doesnt accept it anymore

Try another key if you have one or try holding the fob in place and try the start button and see what happens......like the member paper said those keys are very sensitive.
Quick question,
Do you have any problems with memory settings I.e: eq settings, radio settings? Meaning do your settings go back to default after you've turned car off for a while?

sadly do not have another key.
when i press the key entirely in and hold it, there is no response at all. as if the key is not there. and no there have been no issues with memory or other settings prior to this issue. i have ordered a key now but have to wait for it to arrive. hopefully i just killed a key and nothing more.

i killed my key. cutting it open to fix a door unlock issue cost me 220.00 and a bit of a headache. i have an expensive door unlock paperweight now to remind me to work slower and more precisely. thanks for your info guys.

There are plenty of members on here that have
Done the repair with no issues , Myself included
When I helped a friend fix his . You were given
Some suggestions on your post how to fix the
problem. I even made a suggestion that fixed
the problem for others that had your same issue .

He should try the repair if he is comfortable with
The method & you should not discourage him
From doing so
