What's it like?

So I REALLY want an E92 M3 in a couple of years. Alpine white with a carbon fiber roof with a manual, preferably. (But hell, I'll take an auto, especially since the manuals aren't that common.)

I just have a simple question requiring your subjective answer!

Describe your experience owning an E9X M3!

The range sucks. The gas mileage you can understand, but for Heaven's sake they needed a bigger tank. 200 miles and -bong- goes the fuel reserve warning.

Oil is like $14 bucks a quart, and you need 9 quarts for a change. Gets pricey.

Car is surprisingly versatile. The fold-down seats allow you to carry a wide variety of items. Long distance cruising at high speeds is extremely comfortable. At 75+ overtaking is effortless, just punch it, and you are around that truck.

Reliability of the V8s is good. So long as you don't have the very rare rod bearing issue, there don't seem to be huge issues. Early cars had issues with the throttle valve actuator, generally a warrantee item.

Performance is deceptive. Left in 'comfort', and below 5,000 RPM, the car just does not feel fast.

BUT.

Hit the 'M' button for your favorite settings, crank it up, and the car just hunkers down, like a big feral cat. Hugely enjoyable to drive. Just make sure you tie everything down when you give it some welly.

Thanks for this! It would be my daily driver, but it wouldn't really see a lot of miles. The range thankfully wouldn't be an issue for me (:

Mine is my daily driver. I think these cars are meant to be driven. It looks good but is no garage queen. I mean at the end of the day, it's a 3 series with a testosterone overdose.

It pains me to see them treated as garage queens! That V8 probably needs some healthy redlining every now and then

Had mine for a year now. Daily driver. Traded a 3301 in. I do have to be careful, as it has gotten away from me, a time or two. 6mt is awesome and installed the Magnaflow on it and it sounds great. Sometimes I take the long way to go somewhere, just to drive it more. Shifting into 2nd at 8,200 rpm is just riveting.

330i to M3! Must have been really weird having all that power at first!

My M3 is not a DD nor is it a garage queen. I take my two dogs on hikes and transporting them (along with the dirt/mud) in a coupe is not my preference. For this task, some DD and the upcoming winter season, I have another vehicle which is better suited.

The M3 is perfect for me as it is very easy to drive around town but change into a beast by pushing M-mode. My only gripe, it should have a 19 gallon gas tank. I can deal with the fuel economy but the range is horrible.
