2014 Nav System Question

Well, it's not so much Nav as it is map display. On my dear-departed '09 the road displays would have gray-ish triangles along major freeways to indicate areas of traffic congestion. I found that to be really useful on my afternoon commutes. The nav stuff in the '14 has more bells and whistles, but I've been playing with it for over 2 weeks and can't quite find the option to show those. There is an option that will make the major roadways a brighter, thicker color, but I don't think that shows congestion.

Congestion shows up in traffic lines (green, yellow and red)... this shows the speed of the traffic......

There is a POI marker on the left side of the screen, it looks like a triangular explosion, it will give you a choice of POI's to see on the map.

I had a 2014 535xi loaner this past week.
It showed the gas station icons along with other icons. IIRC, it was when the scale was .25 mile or less.
The manuals are not available online for the 2014 5er. With that said, I can't offer any more researched advice.

Just goto the onboard manual and see if it offers some insight for you. In this case a little reading may take less time than posting for help.

Best of Luck

I did discover the traffic lines as stated by FalconFlyer. This is even better than what I had in the '09 version since it appears that it now covers traffic flow on many more roads in Houston. The '09 really showed only the main freeways/tollways. I'm very happy with this feature, it's a big plus over the '09 version.

As far as the POIs from HappyJester, I can get gas stations to appear, not sure which option I turned on for that. I do recall in the '09 that you could turn on/off different types of POIs (restaurants, gas stations, police stations, hospitals, parks, parking lots, and a lot more). I have not seen where that option is in the '14.

I hope they put the manuals for the '14 online pretty soon. Browsing through the manuals on the iDrive is ugh, and in the hardcopy is double ugh.

Finding the way to turn them was not the problem- navigation- options- POIs. My problem is they simply will not display once turned on?!?

I also got a 2013 750i loaner. I notice the Nav system is way smoother plus the layout is totally different than my 2011 740i. Not sure if update the map will change the whole display, probably need to replace the whole unit.

2014 Nav System Question

I had a 535 loaner and was impressed that the nav displayed the actual logos for various POIs. Thought a 2014 update would give me the new look and POIs- Nope, I think it just updates the roads!
