Tuner Mod and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Determined to get to the cause of my new Note 3 not working with my tuner mod.

FWIW, all iphones work with it, as did my previouis Note 2. The note 3 however, does not. When I plug in the 3.5mm aux cord, 90% of the time the music continues to play through the phone' speakers. The other 10% of the time that there is a switchover to the tuner, static and noise is pretty much all you can hear, with just a faint hint of the music in the background. There is a lot of specualtion that it has something to do with Samsung's automatic switching from the phone's speaker to external source. In other words, the phone does not recognize an external source properly due to no impedence/resistance from the tuner mod to trigger the switchover like headphones will.

Apparently there is another method to do the tuner mod which uses RCA jacks instaed of the 3.5 aux. PAPER uses this system and states that he tried a Note 3 and it worked flawlessly. So there is hope.

I'm looking for any input and suggestions y'all might have.

Amazing I could never get any of my samsung phones to work with my tuner mod. I also have the note 3 and it does not work. I just have a dedicated ipod for it now. I did see however someone on here bought an adapter that hooks into the 3.5 jack and broadcasts via bluetooth to the phone and music works perfectly. I forget the member who has this. The nice thing about it was the wire was out of the way and the phone was free from the jack to use whenever for whatever.

I have the Tunelink which is the same thing. But trust me, it is not a good sounding option to the tuner mod. Bass sounds tinnier and the Bluetotth usually doesn't connect. It pairs, but does not connect. Bimmerbrad7.....are you also the guy who did manage to get the tuner mod to work somewhat with your Galaxy by playing around with the ground connection? I wonder if I move the ground from the circuitboard to a chassis ground if it'll make a difference.

Still hoping PAPER will chime in.

The mod im refering to for bluetooth uses the tuner mod, not the fm transmitter. The tunelink you have is not what im talking about. Like i said it hooks into the 3.5 jack you made for the tuner mod(male end) then the male end hooks into the female module. So again it goes through the tuner mod.

That is correct though I did fool around with different grounds. But that was just to get it work. Like i said i could never get to work, with my S3, S4 or Note 3.

Actually maybe the tunelink is the same thing. So it doesnt work well with the tuner mod is what your saying?

Have you tried a different wire between the Note and the aux jack? Sometimes the output jack on the phone is slightly different to accommodate the different accessories and microphone that can be plugged in.

It just doesn't work well in general. Nothing to do with the tuner mod. A lot of people have had issues with the Tunelink system.

Yeah, I tried that too.

Also, I just threw my buddies Galaxy S3 on and it doesn't play either.

Re: Tuner Mod and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3

May I suggest that you find an auxiliary cord that the tip is the same as the headphone jack that came with your phone . If that doesn't help then I will gladly take a picture of the inside of my tuner so you can see how it's soldered but first try finding the proper auxiliary cord

I will have a look and see if I can get one of those. I currently have the two insulator tip on my cord (right and left). The three insulator tip such as those on earbuds for phones is to accomodate the mic for phone calls (right, left and microphone). That said, I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Not sure if this matters but I'll toss it out there , I will say this
I installed an OEM Aux in someone's car & they had an aux cord
they purchased for a few bucks on Ebay according to the owner
of the car . Well the Cord did not work properly The sound sort of
worked with his Iphone But not with my European Galaxy Note .
We drove to a local Best Buy & the owner Purchased a Monster Aux
cable or it might have been a Beats Aux cable , Anyway we plugged
it in & all was fine & working .

Noted. I will try that. What scares me is the $$ for Monster cables, and then splitting and soldering the wires, only tio find out that they don't work any better.

The incident i was referring to was for the OEM AUXILIARY not the tuner mod .
I just told you about that experience so you could see that the actual Aux cord
could be the problem .

here is a pic of the proper method of doing the AUX Tuner mod .
Now you do need an Audio switcher when doing this method so
you can switch back & fourth from radio audio to Aux audio ...

Hmmm. Not sure that helps me PAPER. Not sure what connects to what, especially since you used RCA jacks.

1 set of rca connect to radio points
The other set connects to the left & right points .
& like I said you need an audio switcher that
The rca's connect to to choose between radio source
& auxiliary source .

So does it matter where the right and left wires go to on the radio source? Can you reference me any models for the switcher? Where did you place your switch for it? Push button?

Without all the info I'm afraid to fry something. I'm a good solderer (my dad was a TV and radio repairer/electrician), but I'm a little scared to mess the electronics up if I connect something wrong.

Did you get this info on our site here, or did you go your own route with your own research?

What are you guys using as far as a phone holder? My old Galaxy would fit perfect in one of the drawers but I can't find a good spot for my Note 3. Excuse my high jacking by the way.

Here is a couple you might want to try out .

http://www.amazon.com/Cradle-less-Qu...F1H1CCD83Q5R3Q

This is what I am currently using now , here is the link to site & a pic
of the method of how I use it with my phone .
( this pic is from there site & not my actual phone )
PS: I do not use the suction section , I use the small plastic in black ( see pic )
attachments & it slides in place in my car & on the back of the phone case

Driver side input would be left = Left side RCA wire
Passenger side input would be right = Right side RCA wire
Ground = Ground

Radio source B left = Left side RCA wire
Radio source A right = Right side RCA wire

I place my buttons in my center console , If I remember later
I will take a pic of them for you .

As for an Audio switcher , That is entirely up to you to choose which 1 you want to use .
I personally used an Alpine unit cause I needed an Audio & Video switcher cause I have
several audio & video source's in my car .

.
now AS for your AUX INPUT you have many choices . you can go with a regular
Aux to RCA cable like this 1

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCOSCHE-I6RC...item20d9f45ec7

you can go with a Ipod / iphone cable that also charges like this .

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scosche-IPAV...e12c4c&vxp=mtr

or you can even go with a mini USB cable for you Android users like this cable , but
you will also need an HDMI convertor for it to work . Just make sure you get the correct 1 for your phone .

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-TV-AV-C...item27da0aefa8

HDMI convertor needed

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-AV-cabl...item2331a82797

some of these cables have video also , if you have screens in your car you can use the video line .
If you don't have screens then don't use that line .

Thanks PAPER.....I'm just trying to make heads or tails of all this. So, each pair of the RCA's goes to the switcher? Did you mount the switcher in your console, or did you runs a switch from the switcher to the console? I'm going to keep it simple and go with the rca/aux cable and avoid HDMI and the like. I cannot find any diagrams or step-by-step how to's on this method of the tuner mod. If I figure it all out (I'm having my doubts), I'm going to try and piece together a how to. :-) My confusion comes from trying to figure out what the switch actually accomplishes with only two sets of rca's. I would've thought there'd be more wires to accomplish this?

I probably sound like an idiot!

Your asking the same thing over & over .
I already told you I put the switch in my center console
& it doesn't matter were I put mine , you can put
Yours any place you want ...
Have you tried reading what I have written ?
There are a total of 3 sets of rca's , the radio rca
Plugs into input on the switcher , the Aux or
whatever cable you Decide to buy plugs into
input on the switcher , then the
Output on the switcher plugs into the tuner .
Then you use the switcher to choose between
What audio source you want to listen to ...

It is that simple !!!
