No Shelf, No Seven, No Nothing

As you all know, The Curse of the RWS hit me on October 9, 2013 when my new Seven was callously stolen while at the dealer awaiting a RWS retrofit.

On October 10, 2013, I promptly ordered a new Seven with one modification. I changed the trim selection so that I would get a RWS.

Nineteen (19) days have now passed and my new order remains just that, a new order. My car has not gone into production.

Does anyone know what the maximum time is for an order to go into production?

Is this extended wait a result of The Curse of the RWS or is this a normal period of time to wait?

Did you ask your CA for a production number and production week? If production week > current week, then your car won't be in production. Otherwise it is in production or complete.

Non RWS cars are limited in number, and will be colectible. Unfortunately that makes them a higher target for thieves. I ALWAYS keep my car in a locked garage overnight, and make sure the car is locked, alarm on etc. There's really nothing you can do when you take your car into the dealer however. Part of life.

It's like the Ford GTs without the McIntosh optional sound system - those are more collectible.

I would tell you, but I was beat over the head by a burglar who was sporting a RWS in piano finish, and have since developed a case of amnesia.

I have my seven digit production number. Is the production week contained within the production number or do I have to contact my CA to get additional information?

Sorry I can't help you. My Kia was purchased right off the lot.

Weird question, but is the dealer basically buying you a new car? It sounds as if it was stolen off their lot, correct? Or did you have to get a valuation of your old 7 and they paid the diff?

Although I have been calling it my Seven, it really was not legally mine yet because I had not accepted delivery.

The dealership (or BMW) took the loss.

This has made the replacement process much more simple for me because all I had to do is re-order the car. Now I am just waiting.

That having been said, if the car does not go into production soon, I am going to have to go to my dealer, buy that extra RWS sitting on my CA's desk, and fly to Germany with it.

Then I am going to have to find the guy who is delaying the production of my new Seven.

Once I find him, I am going to have to beat him with the RWS for taking so long.

I don't think 7s are in particular high demand. My speculation would be that your dealer would have been able to quickly modify a car they had on order for dealer stock into your car in pretty short order. So to not have a production week communicated would be strange.

My dealer did a search. There was no Seven available that met all of the specifications contained in my order. He did find one that had everything except ARS, but I want ARS. This is way I simply re-ordered the car.

Now that's a RWS. All the rest y'all are just poseurs.

Have you ever been on Skyline Drive in Laguna Beach?

When parked on the cul-de-sac during sunset at the end of Skyline Drive, the RWS glows tranquilly from the reflection of the setting sun.

Just like a va-jay-jay. It glows and showers Skittles and gold over the rainbow, and you might even see a leprechaun sporting a RWS instead of a cane be ejected out of it. Solid! Just lovely.

Ghost, after your 7 is put on a ship drop me a line- I'll "take the journey" with you. We had such fun last time- if you leave out the part where your 7 got stolen that is.

I ordered mine in March, had it in my garage by May 18. Here's the post chronicling the build to order, to delivery of my 2013 F01: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...489&highlight=

Hopefully my new ride will be on a ship in a couple of weeks. When it arrives at the port in Bayonne, NJ, it will probably be early December and it will likely be extremely cold, unlike the day that I was there a few weeks ago.

How did you get that close and take pictures at the port? When I was at the port in Bayonne, NJ heading to the Turandot, a guard stopped my journey, told me that everything was under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security, and that no pictures were allowed. The guard did show remorse. He said he was sorry if he "popped my balloon."

I didn't take the pictures. If you read through the post, you'll see that I got a hold of one of the longshoremen who was able to find my car in a sea of 3K+ BMWs and Minis. Because I ordered it, it had a red tag and was one of the first cars to make it to the processing plant. The guy with the Orange vest is the NYK employee who took the pictures and sent them to me via text as it was going down.

I was persistent, and knew the car was there, the boat was there, the shipping company had people there taking cars off the boat, so after a few calls, they were very helpful in getting me to this guy. I think his name was Jay Adams or something like that.

I plead guilty. I did not read your post last night. Rather, I just looked at the pictures while watching Monday Night Football. I am impressed that you were able to make contact with a Longshoreman who then agreed to find & photograph your car. I am not sure that would be possible at the Port in Bayonne, NJ, which is just across the water from NYC and the WTC. I think that the security is much more intense here.

Prior to purchasing my first BMW (2011 535ix), I test drove a Five, which had ARS, at another dealership. I remember the CA continuously telling me to go around sharp turns very fast without breaking. He wanted me to keep pushing the car. In short, the handling of the car was awesome. I did not select any of the sport options/packages on the 2011 535ix that I ordered. While my car does handle quite well, something is missing. I believe what is missing is ARS. I will find out for sure when my 2014 750ix M Sport with ARS arrives.

Not sure about BMWs, but my previous orders of American made cars all took 10-14 weeks. They also only had a 5 day journey to get to the West Coast. When I have ordered parts from BMW Germany they have taken 5-6 weeks to arrive, so I can't imagine that shipments of cars come very quickly. Sorry to be such a Bimmer-Bummer. I just hope I am wrong.
