Front End Issue Related to Accident?

I have a 2008 X3 that was in a rear end accident last month. Impact speed was about 50 miles per hour over my own forward speed ( woman had a seizure and floored it ).

After the body was repaired, I noticed that when turning left at 25 to 35 miles per hour on a typical back-road type turn the 4x4 light comes on momentarily and the right front wheel seems to 'dig in' and there is a temporary grinding sound, almost what it would feel like if the wheel was hitting the inside of the wheelwell ( it is not ).

Is there anything in the front differential that would damaged from a rear end impact of this force and cause this kind of symptom when turning?

Thanks for any advice or info on similar experience.

It almost sounds like your rear wheel is not align correctly. I would get a 4 wheel alignment, if that doesnt fix the problem, then most likely you have some sort of suspension damage in the rear.

We were rear-ended by a Mercury Sable (sloping front end) that dove under the rear end of our '05 E83 X3 (same body style as the '08).

We were essentially stopped and she was going ~45 mph.

From the back it did not look all that bad...

They totalled the vehicle due to suspension damage in the rear, unibody damage and since the exhaust system had been jammed - potential damage to the engine mounts. More damage underneath than to the visible rear of the car. The rear hatch opened and closed without a problem - go figure.

They never counted all the damage - got to the cut off point and stopped counting.

BTW, you may want to post this at the X3 E83 forum:
