Question D2 Forged Wheels vs ADV1 vs HRE

Anyone on the board familiar with D2 Forged wheels? Also looking at ADV1 in a couple of styles, plus HRE 948R's.

I was looking at the FMS09 wheel in 21's as shown here in 22's: http://www.ausmotive.com/pics/2012/B...D-FMS09-03.jpg

D2's look sick. If you want top notch quality than go with HRE's because they're the best wheels money can buy. ADV1's have amazing looking wheels but quality is suspect from what I've read on various forums.

I had HRE 540r's on my 2005 e65 (see my album posted in my profile), and was unhappy with the quality. I had to get them redone because the chrome was starting to come apart after 2 years. So I sent it back to HRE and for $1,700 had them polished coated in the centers, and chrome lips. They were 20's. Tight setup, but the quality isn't so great. I've also heard people who've had problems losing air in their 3 piece wheels.

Good input on the ADV1's though. Didn't know that they were known for having some quality issues.

Really, I had HRE's on my S5 without any issues. I guess with aftermarket wheel companies you're going to get a bad wheel or two.

Here's one unhappy customer for ADV1's;

Chrome really depends on where you live and how u keep them. salt kills chrome so if they are exposed it is corrosive. all those wheel companys offer some great wheels. I have some custom 3 piece forged wheels on my viper. Any 3 piece wheel is prone to leaking but as long as its sealed correct it shouldn't be an issue.

Here's a before and after on my HRE 540r's from Chrome to Chrome lip with Polished Clear Coated centers.

And yes, they told me it was because I'm 2 miles from the ocean. WTH? After 2 years the chrome starts to chip? Palheeeeze. Such a total copout excuse if you ask me.

By the way, HRE stands for Holy Roman Empire for thos who wonder what the abreviation stands for.

Wish I could do a poll to see what everyone's feedback is. I found out that I can't get the 21's in the HRE 590r's. So the closest would be the 940rl.

Here are my favorite choices in order:
#1) HRE 948rl
#2) HRE 940rl & 945rl (5 star)
#3) ADV1 ADV7
#4) D2 FMS09

Let's have a vote...

One of my good friends did the wheel setup on this Bentley:

I had my Alpina's installed by him and he was telling me that the rims were basically custom made for this Bentely, even the TPMS were custom because the oem TPMS didn't work with these wheels so they replicated them. He was mentioning something about the rears, I believe they're really wide not sure how wide. The total setup cost around $10,000 (CDN dollars) with the rubber. The car with these wheels is drop dead gorgeous so my vote goes for these wheels.

I can get the 21's custom media for my F01 for around $8,500 with Contis in 21's. From time to time you can find them used for $3k to $4k. http://teamspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1406431

I too am NOT sold on HRE and have read MANY folks who have had quality control issues with them. They are waaaay overpriced IMO. For the competition out there (as you've listed). Now none of these are gonna be cheap by any stretch because: Forged - 22" - multi-piece. I say go with the one YOU really love the style/design. D2 and ADV1 are great choices.
I will add another option for you to consider: Nutek Forged

Glad I could be of assistance!

I honestly wanted these wheels bro... Too much other $$$ commitments. Didn't want my wife to go "Mad Loca Latina" on my ass! LOL! I have yet to see a F0 anywhere rocking these! The combination of those juicy lips (ha!) and the deep concave goodness and spoke design are truly on another level. And as you might imagine: silver or even painted white with the chrome lips...

Yeah, just checked out their site and saw the level of customization that goes 9 deep. From the lip, to pin stripe, to the screws, you name it. Pretty nice. And the company was launched by a former HRE co-founder. HRE's are my first choice, but clearly the others give HRE a run for the money.

Thanks for sharing. My wife would go bat $h1t on me if she even knew I had this on my mind. "I'm just looking hunny, I'm not buying anything..." , ehem, yet. LOL ; )

My wife of 13yrs knows more about modding thanks to my dumba$$. When we've attended car shows and over the years and plethora of wheels I've gotten, she now has an idea of what costs $$$ versus average modding. If I were to install these she'd be like, "Oh I know them shyts weren't cheap! Where's the receipt?"

From those choices, go HRE or Nutek. If you want some nice recommendations, Vellano, Savini or the MHT stuff such as DUB1.
