swapping out plastic headlight lens?

2006 x3 with xenon lights. I have a busted plastic headlight lens. I found a complete used headlight assy on ebay without the electronics. I would like to just swap the plastic lens cover....Is the lens held on using silicone? Or is it all a one piece assembly? Thanks in advance for help.

The 2006 BMW X3 Xenon Headlight Assembly is one piece. Or rather, it is epoxied on and will be difficult/if not impossible to separate from the housing.

You could try baking the housing, but the availability of the lens is going to be scarce.

We offer the entire assembly new with 10% off with the "bimmerfest" coupon and free shipping for orders over $400 to the continental USA.

Yeah this is a huge annoyance for me--the X3 lenses cannot be replaced individually like on my E46 (for $100 for both). Oh no---you get to buy an entire new headlamp assy for $1000. That's right--a GRAND a piece.

Re: swapping out plastic headlight lens?

Has anyone tried lamin-x for headlamp and fog lamp? Sounds like ~50$ to prevent this?

I have used Lamin-X on my E46 foglights, it is a good product. Quite thick, but in the clear variety you shouldn't notice it.
