New Key Compliment - Backup Key Delemma

What is the compliment of keys/FOBs that come with a new F25?

My dealer told me only two FOBs come with the car but I question if this is so because all previous BMWs I have had came with a thin plastic wallet key that had an imbedded chip so it would start the car.

I do not want to be away from home, loose my FOB, and not be able to start the car. BMW Assist will get me in the car and out of the rain, but the car will not start without one of the two big fat key FOBs present.

How have people addressed this problem?

Our 2011 came with 2 key fobs at PDC delivery. We were told that was standard and, while we could order another key fob, they were costly. No mention of a wallet key or any alternative. If you have connectivity, a cell phone call to BMW assistance can unlock the car...

Which does nothing but get you in the car - It is still not possible to start the car.

The F25 comes with two remotes. There is no wallet or plastic key like with the E83.

For me, this is not an issue. My E83 plastic key stayed in the car. I'd give it to valets.

In terms of a backup, my idea would be to buy another remote. You might be able to get the dealer to comp the cost. Better chance of doing this before the sale, I think.

There isn't an ignition key slot...

Hi!

There isn't an ignition key slot in the F25 X3. You can remove the hard key from the fob (it will only open the driver's door, nothing else) and have a spare or plastic key cut from it. Without the fob, you can't start the car at all...

You can purchase another fob and sync it with your car (there's a how-to in the forums) and stash it somewhere (not in the car!!)...

I LOVE my 13 X3...I'm sure you will too (I had an 04 E83 before).

You have two fobs. One backs up the other.

Key inside key

Isn't there a key inside one of the keys that you can pull out
