Chain tensioner question

Can you stave off timing chain guide wear by replacing the tensioner?

I would imagine that the tensioner has lost a majority of it's tension after 12 years. By replacing the tensioner can it be beneficial to the system?
This way the chain won't beat against the guides due to proper tension.

yes,it will save the guides from wear for sure...The new tensioner has a longer spring making the chain tighter...OEM chain tesnsioner small spring causes , over time to shorten thus making the chain looser.....I installed mine at 135k...when I replaced my guides at 177k the guides were perfect...not 1 chip....Wasnt unitl I removed the bottom 1 did I crack it...It was definetley barely holding together...
