steering wheel removal

Hello all!
I am hot on refiinishing the leather steering wheel on my 550i - many white wear spots and a generally crummy look.
question is, is there a certain procedure to removing the wheel?? I dont want the airbag to blow in my face or to screw up anything.
Any input would be appreciated!!

Several DIY's and Youtubes on "Steering Position Sensor" or "Steering Angle Sensor" cleaning and replacement. That involves detailed R&R on the steering wheel, with airbag safety comments. Should do the job you need.

Do a search for leatherique - you might be able to just re-condition the leather depending on the condition.
