Test Drove X5 xDrive 35i

We test drove a 2014 X5 xDrive 35i base model yesterday. We drove our 2012 Cayenne S to the dealer so we could compare.

IMO the X5 felt way too light on the road and the steering felt too effortless. Also it felt a bit unstable. I wonder if having the handling packages would have fixed some of this.

We currently drive the 2012 Cayenne S and a 550i xDriveGT M-Sport, both heavy vehicles. They feel SOLID.

If anyone can report back on the X5 xDrive 50i I would sure appreciate it. I was really hoping to move into an X5 but after yesterdays drive am leaning the other way. I love the technology and interior of the BMW, but the feel of the drive is very important.

Thank you.

Alex,
It does not change with the speed cause EPS assistance same at any speed. Only Active steering depends on the speed.

Steering was not noticeably changed. The suspension and acceleration compared to PC S was not as good IMO, however, this was a 6 cylinder base 4 wheel BMW vs a loaded 400hp PC S. Not apples to Apples.

This is why I am hoping that going to a 50i and adding packages may make a difference.
Gehre was not an M-Sport or an 8 cylinder available.

I prefer out 2013 BMW 550i XDrive GT to the PC S, hence my hopes that the X5, properly equipped, will live up the the ride we get in out GT,

Best,
Bob

in my "drove a 50i today" thread I also mentioned the bouncy feeling and light steering. It was an m-sport (does not affect handling) and I wasn't sure if it had the dynamic handling package (no sticker). All the cars there that day were fully loaded to show off though (hud, soft-close doors, lane departure, m5 w/ competition pkg etc.).

You can still get the dynamic handling pkg with a 35i - you don't have to go to a 50i for it. At a minimum you should drive it with that package if driving feel is what you're after.

Do you have adaptive drive in your GT?

Lets hope that M sport will be a better drive in 3.5 as well as 5.0 version, otherwise i am moving towards PC
On a side note went to a largest Range Rover dealer in NE they are totally sold out and do not have RR or RRS for test drive, according to a SA waiting list for RRS HSE / V6/ is 4 mo??? And most people order it without even testdrive?

How happy have you been with the GT? How about gas mileage?

City 17.9 but that includes some intra-city highways.
It has been as low as 15 city if I keep it in sport mode.
We have not taken a true Highway trip yet.

I hate to say it, but based on my ownership of an F10 without dynamic handling package I knew the F15 would drive badly. I ordered my E70 x5m as a hedge against the upcoming F15. Glad I did....I will not be getting the F15. OP needs to get a Cayenne GTS instead.
