Production Start Date for 50i?

Does anyone know when production of the 50i will start? I placed an order about 10 days ago and the dealer system is showing it is in the cue but they do not have a production slot available.

I thought that they were already building them but they don't have the Federal red tape cleared up to deliver them to customers yet. Correct me if I am wrong but I think they will be released in the second week of November.

They are building 50i's, but there is a supplier problem with the M Sport 20 Inch wheels, if you are ordering those they are on hold until the end of November.

thanks for the info guys. It still seems odd to me that the dealer doesn't have the ability to place an order even if there are production problems.

I ordered my 2012 ML350 during first production with multiple supplier issues and i was still able to get it in the system for build I just had a delayed build date.

I am out of the country for Nov and Jan - March 2014 so I was hoping to get delivery in December but that doesnt look like its going to happen..

My 50i, M sport with 20" has been manufactured and confirmed delivery to port (distribution warehouse of Baltimore) today at noon.
Still, not delivering till mid november.
Dealer says they are not releasing any v8, did not hear any thing about a rim issue?

Yesterday's delay update

My x-5 50i M 's order was put in yesterday for week 45 (mid November). The production date was instantly moved back to the end of December citing issues with the 20" wheel supplier.

Post your updates when you are told something similar ... or different!

For some reason all people having ordering issues are all on the v8s.
What deals with my particular car, it has been manufactured, inspected and delivered to distribution warehouse.
In this case, the rims shall not be the issue.

=> Can't believe we can't have a firm answer from BMW NA.

Re: Production Start Date for 50i?

I talked to my SA today and he still said the order is in the system cue but they do not have a production slot for the build. I asked to talked to the poc in charge of ordering to see what the issue is from their side. Seems to me they should have a slot even if its delayed due to wheel supply issues.

Im not sure what else to do

nobody from BMW NA on the forum to be able to give us a clear answer as to why a manufactured and inspected car cannot get delivered?

V8 issue or rim issue? V8 AND rim issues, that's a lot!

From xbimmers. "I have a '14 X5 5.0i at the dock in CA (I think Oxnard, CA) for at least ten days and my salesman just called and said, "your '14 X5 5.0i is being held because all X5 5.0i need an engine software flash". Something about, "if you push the engine hard you will get a "false check engine light".

That makes sense: they do have an issue with the v8s.
On my end, they did not give me a reason but told me they were holding the already manufactured v8 till mid November.
Not sure if others heard the same thing.

50i in production

Just found out yesterday my 50i is in production and scheduled to be completed Nov 5. I am doing a factory delivery and don't have a delivery date yet. I ordered the cold weather package, driver assistance plus, dynamic handling package, ivory white nappa leather, executive package, active steering, space saver spare, ventilated seats, with luxury line.

Interesting. It sounds like all the V8s are locked in.
No answer from BMW in spite of my messages as to why and how long it will take.

This is a frustration situation for the following reason:

- my DD is sold
- probably paid extra in order to get the newest car early
- wanted silver glacier and it will be available from december with extra traffic jam option.

Really unhappy at the way BMW is dealing with the situation.

Mack when did you place your order? was it recently or have you had the spot for a while?

Standard answer from my dealer is that nothing is available for order placement until December.

My initial VIR is dated July 17. I don't have the VIR where it went in to the production queue. Probably early October. Made a last minute change to the 50i. Life may be short and I didn't want to miss the experience. I can hear it now. Drove a 2013 50i and it really put a smile on my face.

got confirmation from BMW NA today that all x5 v8s needed a flash update and that was the reason for delay in delivery.
dealer let me know that federal authorities were not releasing v8s.

both told me v8s are to be released either 11/15 or 11/18.

hope this help

Unfortunately that is the problem ordering a car at the beginning of its first model year. There are often problems getting what you want when you want it.

Anyone have an update on actually placing an order for a 50i and getting a production date? My SA still saying I am first in the cue for their dealer but nothing yet.

My 50i was produced Nov 5 and will be released on the 18th. I'm picking it up Nov 26 at the factory.

Well I think it's time to go to another dealer with allotments available. This is absurd IMO considering I originally wanted to place the order the 2nd week of October.

My original VIR was dated July 17 for a 35i. I changed it to a 50i with several additions on Oct 2.
